Robotic Mowers - Impressions and advice

Only thing that puts me off Robo mows is they dont collect ...clippings pita getting traipsed into house by kids.

I bought a brand new JD rideon coming up 10 years ago now... A few services and starter solenoid and a set of blades and that's it runs sweet as still.

My dad bought a Westfield about same time..nice machine but he's had a crap load of issues all sorts of stuff clutch destroyed itself recently spent a fortune on it now.

I believe that the robot mowers don’t do well with fallen leaves (autumnal, not just one or two!), dog bombs or mole hills - worth bearing in mind if you have any potential for these obstacles.

Dog bombs would be an issue, I've two from bomber squadron

Sounds like you need to ask on a tech forum or modern garden forum.

Ventured onto the Facebook forums for some of these, it's like a religious conference in the same hotel as an LBGT convention.

Ive thought about a robot mower, we have about 5000m2 but say 4000m2 grass... also considered a gardener ... at least your giving someone a job.

My uncle has a 4kish husqvarna automower 3 or 4 years. Still cuts with flymo at start of year on the steeper bits but he reckons saves him 5 hours a week in peak growing season. A wash every year and blades every two is the only maintenance so far.

So I visited the guy today he has new GPS 1 on demo doing OK but expensive
He has 1 make maybe in the original post that he said molehills and dog do it goes straight over no bother but parts etc are a nightmare.
Husky ones get to a molehill and basically get stuck

Get yourself to Lidl next week

At a max of 1000m2, I'd need five of them Aiden.
They're a very basic boundary wire machine, no way I'm laying that amount of wire around my place, it would be a couple of days job in itself.

You do wonder how Lidl can sell them at that price tho, makes you wonder the markup on these other machines.

Lidl and Aldi are able to bulk buy somethink like 5k to 10k in a job lot. Without providing any dealer back up which is where the margin goes!! It works as the items last long enough to be throw away at the much reduced price, or no quibble money back on those that fail as long as you have the receipt!!

Where as Fred's hayter has lasted for 30 years and will do another 10 .

Dont disagree about Freds mower but Tbf I dont think you get many eco conscious bods buying cheap electric mowers from lidl

They say the best way to save the planet is to get people out of poverty ...not sure its relevant to the center isle in lidl though

Did a big landscaping job last year, customer had full Husqvuarna (I think) system installed he was prick about it the entire time we were there trying to install the wires around us for days rather than wait a fortnight.Second day he had it working Amazon driver turned around on his front lawn and went straight over it, we watched him drive off ,priceless moment!

That's why I'm looking for feedback if anyone's had or knows of use cases.

The manufacturers all make bold claims about the robotics running 24/7 in dry or wet conditions, but I know the heavy claggy mess a mulching deck becomes after mowing wet grass and I can't see these being any different.

Place i worked at while back had 3 huskys running day and night covering all the lawns with a guide wire buried in around the perimeter to keep them in the right places
They don't take much off once lawns are to the kept levels so not much in the way of blockages happen as they are not doing deep cuts due to running constantly

Yeah only a mil or 2 at a time so you don't have grass left laying on the lawn as such then
