Had a tune out for the trommel todaybut while I was making it I burned out the electric motor so decided to go all hydraulic so got a hydraulic motor of a scrap turo mower and a hydraulic water pump from a scrap water delivery truck from the airport got them all piped up with a speed control for the drum drive so can slow the drum while keeping the water pump at full chat that is driven off the mini diggeralso got a hydraulic driven 2” submersible water pump so got plenty of water flowing through the drum and that gets driven by my little telehandler anyway if you look at the pile of black shitty stone in the pile that’s what we need to clean about 700 tonnes all together

So after it had been through this

I have a 3 ph electric power unit that should run it when on the yard but I’ve a nice Deutz 4 pot turbo with a pump all made ready from an airport de ice unit that is on the f 650 that Monkeybuisiness was drooling over
As for dirty water there are 2 dumpy bags under the drum that catches all the stuff gets through the trommel that is ‘filtering’ the shite out of the washings than the bags will be emptied out and go for disposal at the same place over 100 tonnes of reeds and mud went last week

Looks like it is working great. I can see why the client is happy.
Washing stuff through a sieve in our yard I found the fliter rate of dumpy bags was too slow and the water tended to overtop. Doing a bit of online research I came across
Dirt bags http://www.dirtbagsuk.com/ . The people are very helpful with advice as to what filter size we needed when I explained what we were trying to trap and the bags were very effective. From memory not that expensive either.

It’s the biggest glass bottle manufacturer and filling plant in Britain and all there water from the production line, roofs,yards etc all go to a treatment plant then into a large lagoon where air is blown through it to help the ‘bugs’ do their thing then into the reed bed, so the ‘shite’ is sand, limestone dust and general dirt after the reed bed it goes into a large brook with weirs in (that I clear every year) then eventually into the Mersey estuary after a few pumping stations,
The shear amount of sand etc. chokes the reeds so every 3-4 years it gets mucked out and they get a temporary license from the EA to let us over pump past the reed bed

Ha ha, I didn’t actually know what it meant, it’s just something Sheriff Buford T Justice shouts in Smokey and the Bandit (world’s greatest film - fact) and it makes me laugh! Kind of fits here though!

Well the trommel is cleaning the stone pretty good we empty the collecting bags every couple of days

There are two that get full of sand/silt

It fills a 3 tonne dumper in about 5 minutes we have to keep the flow down as the friction drive wheel starts to slip (will put another drive wheel on for next time so will have two driving it) we do about 100 tonnes a day, not been there last week or this week, going back after Easter Monday

On a side note adapted some wheels from one of the airport tugs that we cut up a few weeks back
Got the 8 stud wheels from an old truck that came in burned the centres out of the rims then turned them down to fit inside the big tug wheels and welded them in and being 28 ply shouldn’t puncture as easy as the soft agricultural tyres that was on it

I did measure them before I started but didn’t think they would be such a snug fit but it still gets full lock both ways

No it was to keep the rain off the drive end as was plagued with slippage to begin with but after we slowed the water down a bit so that didn’t get on the drive wheel and covered it too it didn’t slip once
When it comes back to the yard I will put a big conveyor belt over the whole drum to make it a bit safer

The trommel is sat over two big funnels that direct the dirty silt laden water into the bulk bags that are held open in the main water tank, so to empty them you unplug two hydraulic hoses that power the drum and one water pipe that supplies the drum and lift the frame up that the trommel is built on (weights about 1 ton) then simply lift the bags out
Will take a few pictures next week when I get back to site if it dismantled
