We get a lot of stuff from the airport for scrap and all come with the tanks full of gas oil maybe draw 40 litres from the small gear like mobile steps etc. But we’ve had a few 40 &50 ton tugs in recently they have 3-400 litres each I’ve had to get a couple of bowsers to store the stuff not bought fuel for a good two years now and have got about 5,000 in tanks:whistle: shame it’s not white:cautious: plus all the hydraulic oil from them which I then put through a three filter hydraulic pump (which also came in the scrap)
And I even get paid to “de-polute them;)

Is it a scrap yard you run?

Keep your eye out for a rear axle and tranny out of a tug, I'm looking for a setup to build a tractor puller (y)

Low 70s from NWF fuels here. 200 or so ltrs at a time and I don't haggle the price i just want to buy it and get on with my work.

Other country's have been running plant on white for years at the end of the day the customers pay for it.

i did notice on a bulk delivery a few years ago the red looked like it was "watered" down with kero I presumed. Anyone else seen this?

used to buy 30 odd thousand litres of DERV, direct from Shell, every 10 days or so, Con and a lot of red too ..... occasionally they'd turn up with all white, stick my 'red' order in the gas oil tank and drop a measured amount of dye into it ..... they'd simply tell HMRC of the amount they'd dyed and was recorded on the delivery ticket - " X amount dye additive added to XX amount of DERV on delivery " and'd get it rebated at source.
possible you had some like that, with inadequate dye added - you'd smell kero as you used it - Gas oil does vary in colour too.

as for white - or lack of red in other countries .... yeh you're right, but the rates also reflect it too ..... and a bit of a bugger if you CAN'T charge it out .. why should we have to pay road fuel duty on summat that never uses the roads ??

As Kevin Furness said elsewhere recently, the frogs're going nuts about the possible loss of ag/off-road fuel .... apart from all the other s**t they're torching the countryside for

Most big tugs are 4 wheel steer, there is three in the yard now 2 little 25 tonners that have normal 10 stud axles and a 40 tonner on big (like a mobile crane axles) not sure if it’s 4 wheel steer will look tomorrow but I don’t think you will get the speed you need with the transmission and axle as they are quite slow
To be honest just hook the sledge to the back of it, I don’t think you would tell there was anything behind it:whistle:

Forgot a few years back I collected a fuel tanker from the airport that was “empty” well it was apart from the 6000 litre front compartment that had the valve handle missing:D that kept me going for a week or two:whistle:

I was hoping to pick up a Dock spotter with a perkins V8 motor, that would be least amount of work to make it into a puller

Missed a 0

a day Stu ;)

yes .... used to sell a LOT of derv ..... had a contract servicing the Red & White bus fleet locally - 15 buses ... cleaned and fueled daily, aside from all the mechanical maintenance - had three fitters full time on that side of it and used to fuel anyone and everyone locally (several small fleets of delivery vehicles, etc.) and anyone else who wanted it .... didn't make a huge amount per litre, but it was a nice additional income ;)
had 35,000 litre capacity in me tanks and sometimes needed a fill twice in a fortnight

IIRC 18 & 17 thousand litres

and yes that tank stand was well over 16' 6" ... chose the route to the customer's cheese factory, at the other end of town, very carefully :giggle:

one down, ready to ship out, when I was clearing my site :cry:

go wash yer mouth out with soap:eek::unsure: ..... Cummins V8 Mike :giggle:(y).... V555 (y).... I understand they were originally designed as a marine diesel and had a lot of success as race engines ..... to wind up the volume' you decrease the return line's bore size .... told they'd put out a 1000hp .... but didn't last long :(
the Perkins had a nasty habit of 'hunting' on a steady throttle and were a lot more fragile than Mr. C's offerings

I had to go back to your earlier post about the diesel having the dye added. I was thinking you was putting Red in the buses. Now that would have been profitable!!

Sure as hell would've been;) .... red was pennies a litre back then :)... BIG differential between DERV and gas oil at one time .... real BIG!!:giggle::giggle:
With customs and excise in my yard, every other week, dipping vehicles, it wasn't a risk you'd have taken ....
with such large quantities of Industrial gases, LPG, DERV and Gas Oil on one site and all sorts of vehicles - trucks, buses, cranes, FLTs, tractors, vans and cars, we were a 'special' target ...
but we knew 'em all by name and I think they were more interested in our tea room and biscuit box, than anything else....
think they'd have been well shocked to find any issues:ROFLMAO:
