Q/H Mismatch

Got a KX71 a bit back - I already had a decent set of buckets and a hitch from a JCB 803 from years ago - when it came I took off its hitch and put my hitch on it and used all the buckets no prob.... there was a fair bit of slop in my hitch so thought I would change the hitch to the one that came with it ..... strangely the Q/H that came with it will only pick up half the bucket set and the others are too tight ....quick measure round shows half of the buckets have 125mm centers and the other half 130mm centers

What do think best plan is ? dont want to buy another hitch as plan to buy a powertilt at some stage and would like to use the hitch that came with it........... butchering the actual hitch which is for 130mm is going to make it slack on half the buckets so I suppose its a matter of grinding the pins in the wide spaced buckets

Thought I would ask opinions on how best to do it before sparks fly .... 5mm off the back pin 2.5mm off each ? or is there a better idea ?

Just about to do something similar my self. I have 3 buckets and none fit the QH. I doubt I will ever need new buckets again though, only gets farm use, so plan to cut the ears off the buckets and make them fit the hitch. My only concern is keeping proper range of movement so will tack weld and check fit lots.

Turned up to a rail job on a sat night,using our drill rig,TEI on hired in new liebherr rrv,engcon hitch didn't fit out rig hitch,so rrv firms fitter,who normally worked on hgv's took angle grinder..... To brand spanking new engcon!
Still didn't fit cos case drain hose fitting was wrong,n electrician who had left firm on bad terms,had run electric control wire to engine canopy....but not connected,went back did job next night,but fitter probs put five years of wear into new hitch in ten mins

In the old hitch the wear is pretty general front and back jaws ... allows it to pick up the different pin centers in the buckets 125mm and 130mm.
I reckon if I grind a few mill off the inside edges of the pins on the buckets with the 125mm spacings then I might get them on in an acceptable fashion, then again might be a dogs dinner

looks like all the pins'll come out ..... a belt grinder would do a pretty decent job of what you're trying to achieve.

If the pins will come out could you elongate the holes they sit in if only a couple of mm refil with weld or have longer pins made and put a long tag on them with a multi position bolt hole like they have on some of the rental attachments
My only thought being if you have an odd shape pin you might accelerate wear in the new hitch

If you intend to keep the machine for a bit, I'd sell the two hitches you have and that would buy you a new one! I was amazed at how much people will pay for a 2nd hand quick hitch. That JCB one is worth £200 easy. Plus the other one you have and you would be there for a new harford screw type. BMC make them for better value and the sliding plate in the back would allow for the small adjustment in pin centers you have. And make it nice and tight at the same time.

Good thinking and I will have a look at the BMC hitch - but it was only a sort of stop gap job as I would like to put a powertilt or even a tiltrotator on the KX71 that would transfer across to the next one trouble would be some sort of compatibility between old KX71 and newer machine .... which will surely be another crappy Kubota

Emailed BMC and got an email back at 7 this eve!! Yes they can do me just the bottom half to weld onto my Powertilt, £320 plus VAT and carriage. So nice to find a company who reply quick and can accomodate things like that. Fingers crossed the product is as good. Also quoted me £154 plus vat for a 900mm grader. Seems a cracking price, waiting to hear back on the weight as I want it for a micro.

Can't wait to get rid of that crappy half hitch on the powertilt.

Rob at bmc is great. Emailed him many times at daft o clock and hes replied within an hour or 2.

I’ve used the wedgelock fir several years and can’t fault them.probably put 5000 hours on one fitted to several 1.5 ton machines and now got another on a ecr25d
