Turns out that Prosecco is a legitimate business expense for us lesser mortals 😁

Thick walled 1" BSP all the way from Turkey. Not very nice to weld but then it wasn't sold as such, so putting under mains pressure to look for pinholes.

Part of my narrow boat build, underfloor heating trying to capture some of that 30% of energy that gets lost as heat.
For the kit I've got welding in bosses seems my easiest and most cost effective method. I made a clamp up for the pipe so that I could use my mag drill to take out most of the 27 mm hole. Tap with a hammer and the slug twists out leaving a step each side to support a half inch bsp boss. Had the bandsaw behind me doing multiple cuts on a paying job so my time on the welder I'm not counting 🤫
Made up a sample section and cut it up for checking and noticed that in a section cut and polished that the unwelded pipe had very small black flecks 😬
Haven't been able to stomach the prospect of paying nigh on £50 for 250ml of etchant so going to have to make up an chemical order big enough to satisfy the precursor regulations 😁

Nothing as fancy as that, plain old welded tube in a slightly thicker wall .
There is a welded joint that isn't obvious in the pic 😉
I'll be giving it a good shake and a careful examination before it gets "incorporated " 🙂

CHS (circular hollow section) is usually pressure tested to 4-5 bar in the mill, so should be fine (y)
