we all know stuff is going up at an exponential rate ... but some things are just crazy long term .....

I bought one of these in 2015 ....... cost me 40 quid to the door ... been excellent and thought I'd have another for our second long hose

or with slightly better wheels £139 :oops::oops:


have things really increased 250-350% in general ??????:unsure:

anyone got any other examples ?

butter in 2012 was 68-70p/half pound ..... has gone up to £1.60-70 recently ... again a serious increase in 10 years when inflation has supposed to have been at all time lows in that period. Cartons of OJ, etc. have more than doubled in the last 5 years.
Pam hates shopping so I've tended to do it regularly, for many years and notice this tish. Lately stuff has been jumping in leaps and bounds in some order.

OMG!!!!! :oops: that green one you see in the odd pic with mowings in it, etc. -- Pam's gardening barrow ... was 30 quid in the local garage circa 4 yrs ago ... not exactly a HD barra but perfect for the job (y)

Cathedral City, 550g block, was iirc £4.50 a week ago, often had on a deal for £3.50, now it’s £5.25!

Kerry gold butter up to £2.25 from iirc £1.90

Was watching a YouTube vid the other day and they said shipping a container was £2000 a couple years back is now £20,000.
If true that's nuts.
Maybe we should start making wheel barrows here again.

it's correct .... AFAIK ..... container shipping costs are now 10 fold of what they were pre covid .... makes a lot of cheapo tat impossibly expensive to consider shipping

IMHO food stuffs has been too cheap In the supermarket for too long. It shouldn't be possible for dairy farmers to put cartons of milk on the shelf and sell cheaper than bottled water. We have a factory in the town that produces All Butter Shortbread to sell all over the world and year on year they make record profits, however this last few years the cost of the butter has increased greatly and they can now only make huge profits. I feel for them.

We are a cheap country to live but somehow we seem to have worse lifestyles than most 1st world countries.
However we obviously have stupid house prices that kind of counteracts any benefit to cheap products. Another reason we shouldn't trust the management as it is them and their mates that has landed us in this mess

What is it with Lur Pak then! It's danish. A Few years back the EEC as it was then had a butter mountain, The main problem has been a fixed market but fixed to suit goods coming into the UK putting our farmers onto their knees and paying them subsidies not to grow crops so we have to buy produce from our stroppy friench farmer friends again, likewise importing wheat from Germany, It is time to pay a litttle extra but to also buy British again, I go to our local M&S and purposly only buy British Tomatoes, Peppers, and other veggies a shop for the week for Two is usually about £55-£60 and i don't skimp you just have to be sensible, The problem really is with people that are happy just walk round a supermarket throwing anything into their baskets without even looking at where it comes from especially round here in the South East but then they are the first to start preaching about saving the planet ! Fkin hypocrites, I flatly refuse to buy tasteless Spanish strawberries French Apples etc when British grown ones are available and taste far better and are grown to a better standard. Regarding container cost you are correct the cost a lot more but this is still down to the back log of products coming out of China it will take ages to get things straight after all of the lockdowns that countries had, I know of one Electronics Hi Fi company that has moved its manufacturing back to the UK and is proud to put made in the UK on their packaging once again, Happy days.

I think thats more related to how ridiculous the price of bottled water is...until a few months ago a litre of volvic was more expensive than a litre of diesel!
