Possibly the silliest question ever.

Hi All,
Long time no contact. Many months ago lots of members gave me some really useful advice on the purchase of my first mini digger. On the strength of that advice I acquired the use of a JCB 801.4 for as often as I needed it. Having now carried out most of the jobs, I find myself with another ‘to do list’ . However on attempting to start the beasty, the battery was flat. No problem I thought ! ! Guess what I cannot find where the battery is hidden. Nowhere seems obvious. No easy access panels. No clues.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I can confirm after watching the video that the battery is not in the engine compartment !! I‘d figured the only place left was under the seat but couldn’t believe that with such inconvenient access that it really would be. Hey ho, I just hope I can come up with a long enough extension for my socket to reach the righthand bolt at the back.

Can't you use a jump pack or spare battery and use positive terminal of the starter motor rather than directly on the battery

if it's like my 8015 the starter is behind the fwd bulkhead of the engine bay so no chance

Can't you use a jump pack or spare battery and use positive terminal of the starter motor rather than directly on the battery

easiest way is open the under seat locker with the ign key and pop the pos on the +ve pole of the battery, you can just about see and the -ve on a convenient earth ( I use the bolts mounting the L/H pod to the body) ... but if it's that flat it might not have it .... so take the seat out (two 13mm bolt heads behind the seat, one either side) and access is then a doddle

If you can't get the seat off or get to the starter what about the main feed off the alternator, generally they are a fairly decent/same gauge cable as the starter

those pix were taken when the immobiliser went south and I fitted a new one... tidied all the wiring from the previous unit and re-orientated the battery to how it looked like it was 'sposed to be (according to the battery clamp position) -- the seat bolts are on the rear bulk head and the whole top plate the seat is attached to lifts out, fairly easily, if your 8014 is the same vintage
