Plant trailers

Hi All,

Just looking some opinions on plant trailers, I was all set to buy an Ifor williams gh1054 last year, but then ended up buying 2 second hand ones of ebay, A 10x6 Ifor and a 12 x 5.5 german made trailer.
I originally thought the 10x6 would be to wide behind the van, but ,ive got used to it now!
I will buy a new one before the end of the year i think. I thinking brian james, bateson or Ifor williams?

Any thoughts or others im missing out ?

Pretty much just general use Fred, I would like to tow the full 3.5 ton capacity when needed (don't have a vehicle rated for it but will have soon). Id say the main thing would be attachments we sell but also small compact loaders etc.

I’ve had quite a few 2.7 tonne Ifor GH trailers and they have all been excellent. The build quality/galv looks poorer on the newer trailers than previously but they don’t bend/break. I bought a 3.5 tonne Brian James which looks very good but it keeps cracking (and we aren’t running it fully loaded, only carrying 1.8 tonne chippers). Indespension have just come out with what appears to be a GH copy on leaf springs (bizarrely) that might be worth a look if it’s the right money, but I don’t know anything about size/spec etc.
Nothing seems to hold its money second hand as well as an Ifor though.

Just bought a new gx105 ifor but 14/17 week wait.had current one 16 years so bit of an upgrade with ramps rather than tailboard to save some weight.hope to see it by the new year.will sell old one then if any one looking

Dont know if different specs are available but i know someone with a brian james plant trailer the 3.5 tonne one and the ramps are a fixed distance apart and the design of the ramps make it difficult to load anything with the wrong track width the tailboard on the ifor i use is far more convenient

Not sure on the flat bed trailers from dale kane aiden but the plant trailers on 16 inch rims cannot be touched in my opinion bit heavy but a bloody good trailer went from a Ifor plant trailer think it was gh1054 3500kg it doesn't even come close to the Kane..Ifor done 15k behind a 7.5tonner and more or less fell to bits new bearings all round new brakes new hitch damper you name it it went wrong..just my two cents worth plus fairly local..

i have had a Nugent 3500kg plant trailer for 3 years not missed a beat 10-15k miles rides like a dream and none of the rattling you seem to get with the ifor , had a beatson before and night and day diferance

Have said elsewhere a few times ...... Meredith & Eyre
.... family run firm .... quality products and great to deal with.
Dealt with them for many years. .... they supplied me with made to order/custom running gear for any trailers I used to get asked for and my standard, 'off the shelf' items, I used to make up for sale, (always had a queue for 'em),if we were ever quiet .. better than sweeping up ... and doing 'em in batches kept the cost down on the sale price.
...... used to deal with Mike Carsons ... general manager, but wasn't unusual for Mr Meredith himself to pick up the phone .... a real gentleman

they'd make me up anything I wanted .... I made half a dozen of these for Alun Griffiths Contractors locally .... inverted swing arms and oddly positioned bracketry for mounting the axles .... no problem from M&E

i have the alumax for my mini. its a lot bigger than a normal plant. the width its what you'd struggle with getting a dumper on it. My kubota 030-3 just fits tracks on. lots of spare length though.

Indespension built stronger than ifor so i have been advised by an independent dealer. If towing with a 7.5 tonner for example he thought indespension wheel bearings were stronger and more able to withstand uneven loading, scrubbing on corners etc.

I had a 10x6 for a while and no problems with loading various width machines. The overall width of the trailer was occasionally a problem in the lanes where you meet ag machinery or people who can't reverse a car. Also I felt happier with a ratchet strap around the ramps while on the move. Sold it for a respectable profit.

i now have a Buffalo 3.5t tipper with ramps which is excellent on the road. Made in Yeovil.

Ive been very happy with my Indespention 3.5t plant trailer. Not the Alumax one but still only weighs 650kg which gives plenty of capacity. Uses proper sized tyres, nice and low center of gravity and apart from the rear light "ears" its built really strong. A friend has the Ifor equivalent and I didn't think it was built as well although I think they have recently improved their plant trailer range? And Ifors do hold their money well, not sure I can say the same for my Indespention.

Ive always had ifors and they have been very good - at the moment i have a tt126 tipper that i use for everything but its a heavy old thing .... but the dumper just squeezes on which is a must for my setup.

Always found the Ifor's held there prices well. The Brian James plant trailers are decent looking too
