I've a hired on duck coming on Monday while mine is feeling poorley that will need covering for use on the road, does anyone have any recommendations for where to get just road insurance from as it's already covered by my hired in plant policy.

I've tried jcb already but they want me to take out a full policy which makes it nearly 300 for a month

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
used NFU for years for my biz for everything (commercial combined, engineering, buildings, contents, hot works - on/off site, stock, FLTs, trucks, cranes, business interruption, etc. ) and they saved me a fortune from my previous clowns - Aviva (hot works is a hard policy to place as I'm sure Mike or Aiden will agree and few will take it on) .... plus they were really easy ppl to deal with  and still are.

they lost the plot on vehicle cover circa 6-7 years ago, for about two years, but have been back with them since and I've failed to better their quotes year on year. Just renewed my vehicles with them on the 5th. all in all I've probably been with them going on twenty years or more.

but ......... they won't cover me duck or Jake for fire / theft - no road/third party risks just fire / theft. they know my set up here and the girls i deal with at my local office have all been here several times, so know how secure the place is - just won't ... if I was using them commercially - no prob.s and I'm not after any working cover.
Insured the Zetor no sweat!
so go figure that one :unsure:

neither was I Rory, but see above .....

Yes . My stuff is insured road risks only with john peers insurance they are in the land of the Druid and excellent to deal with . Not sure if they would do a short term cover but you can only ask

I'm not worried about signing up for a year and canceling if the fees sent overly silly it seems daft that a hired in machine was going to cost me nearly the same for a month as mine does for the year

Mind you get fourteen days to change your mind on a policy so depending on how long the hire is it might work out anyway to take it for a year and then cancel !

The hires for 11weeks but I'm hoping to have my machine mended and up there before a fortnight is up 👍

I use John Peers as well, they are reasonably local, and with just a couple of people working there, you get a personal touch when you ring up, non of this speaking to a different person, very time you call and having to reel off policy numbers all the time.

I don't often hire plant in, so don't have hired in insurance, but needed to the other week, and used jcb plantmaster and that had road risk on it(was suggested by my brokers as a more cost effective option than adding hired in to my policy)

Can you not move your insurance across from your machine if it’s going to be parked up - just stick it on a reduced cover without road-risk?

This! I know jcb insurance will do this for you, they are very helpful eg they always add demo machines onto my policy FOC
