Im subbing to a guy atm who has had another guy subbing for him for years. He pays him via umbrella company so apparently this avoids any risk of falling foul of this. Costs the subby about 20 quid a week not sure if it costs the main man too?

Yeh I bet. Why does using an umbrella company change anything though
well they do all the paperwork and presumably he subs the labour from them ? (for which they charge/take a slice )

Why is someone allowed to continually sub to an umbrella but not a normal company? The actual outcome is no different you're just giving money to parasites.

I am sure they are not subbing to an umbrella, they still sub to who ever the employer is, employer deals with all hiring and firing they just do the admin
They manage payroll and do right to work checks and other admin sort of stuff, so contractor pays them and they then pay the subby, just means the liability of deducting cis is on them. I would imagine there are fees both ends for what they do for the main contractor and the subby so they effectively get paid twice to run payroll.

Suppose if you have a lot of people working for you it's easier to just pay Hudson one payment rather than how ever many people you have and all the deductions and then paying that bill when it's due.

Reality is majority of people who are being paid by them aren't self employed, and are just disguised employees and should all be on PAYE. Llunless it's changed look at all the lads who work for mv Kelly they are not self employed in any way, given vans told where to work, when and how to do it, the same goes for a lot of the construction trades

Yeh exactly I just dont understand why is it legal to work thru Hudson as a subby but not direct. Admittedly they are doing some admin but the point is this other guy isnt using them for that he's using them to get around the disguised employment issue. With myself he's paying me as a subby direct, no umbrella. But then im ltd, supplying 2 guys and not working for him long term. So he obviously can do direct if he wants.

I’m 3 months into a vat compliance check , useless isn’t the word! They just keep asking for random information which then extends their determination deadline by another 3 weeks . Mr vat inspector if your reading this please do your job , pick the phone up talk to us - arrange a meeting at our office, you know be productive / don’t just turn up at the gates expecting to be let in.
