Hi guys i think some of us may be missing the point with the duck girl video i say fair play to her she is a good operator and any job that can be done with a machine you go girl.
she is not on that site to be a labourer she is on site to operate a machine the vast amount of accidents involving plant operators happen to them when out of the cab eg helping out labours or in trenches as far as i am concerned stay in the cab and let the diesel do the work.
to uncoil that pipe safely would have taken a couple of guys. I did not see any labour standing around looking for a job most likely hiding looking at a phone screen.
it will not be long until we in the uk start working like the Nordic countries where all that can be done with a machine is. labours standing in the rain with a shovel is part of the past not the future.

Absolutely ..... let the gear do the grunting ......as I always told my blokes .... had 4 FLTs and 5 cranes ..... no need to go struggling to handle summat

Erm, I doubt it sadly.

We have pushed "smarter working" for builders since we started, and that has always been part of the drive with the TB175's.. We have Forks, Clamshell, Block Grab, full set of buckets, and then the likes of pipe reelers and Drum trailers for cables.... Most would rather have there numpties hump blocks by hand one at a time than consider using the grab.... or even more hilariously off hire the digger as "the diggings done".

Trouble is dippy builders think labour is cheap. It will continue for as long as they can continue to overcharge for cheap labour and customers continue to believe that more blokes = more work done. Most also have no logistical brain and will constantly make access worse and worse through poor planning.

The UK is full of numpty hire firms putting gear out at suicidal rates.... until it improves then Scandinavia is a long way off.... @Hydremaduck ?

good builders labourer aint cheap rory i used to pay £12 hr for someone that new what they were doing.the thing is the jobs priced for the men to be there for a certain amount of time,i personally wouldnt see my men struggle if there was a machine to help but lots would say thats there job thats what we pay them for etc when i did my time a hard days work was character building tought you the value of money

I agree, but that wasn't a machine job. Too much risk of it flying off, or taking chunks out of the pipe. Plus it was only a few metres. Now, for the OP, unrolling kilometers of pipe? S30 hitch, spinning jenny. Scandinavian way, way forward.

I'm not knocking Duck Girl- or indead heaping praise on her just cause she's a bird. She's a good op. But that was a daft thing to be doing in my book. Tilty overkill. Had she had a proper unroller, then I would be all praise.
