Hi folks I've got a pel job eb12 (88/90ish I believe) for doing odd jobs around my property


Its an old machine in a bit of a state but it does what it says on the tin ( most of the time) today whilst moving some soil. All of a sudden one track seemed to jam. It seems its trying to move but only moves approx 6" in either direction then stops. Even with the bucket down and machine elevated it's exactly the same.
Any suggestions on what this could be or where to begin, not massively clued up on it so any help would be appreciated.

I would say a gear tooth has come adrift in the drive gearing. Any photos of the machine?

Shall we go for best case scenario first.
It is worth checking nothing is wedged in the sprocket. Internal gears sound more likely but occasionally on old machines a stone gets trapped and the machine no longer has the power to crush it.

If something was jammed in the track it would likely move a whole revolution before jamming again. Which is more than 6"....

But if it's Jams in the sprocket on the non engaged section it will give you a quarter revolution so about 6in

Just been out and lifted the machine up for a look, gave it a wee clean around the area and there doesn't seem to be anything jamming the tracks that I can see.

Have taken a video showing what is happening however it doesn't seem to be letting me upload it here

I can't remember if the drives are gears or chains. I think from memory there are 3x gears reducing the drive.

My gut instinct would be to remove the track, see if the motor will drive freely. If so it perhaps could be the idler bearing although I doubt it. Reality is I think a gear tooth has broke adrift and is jamming unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply mate, appreciate it. I will get the track off as soon as I get a chance and take it from there. I don't suppose it will be straight forward sourcing parts for a machine of this age either if it is what your saying would that be a pretty big job / expensive fix?

Whip the track off see if the sprocket will turn by hand, on the back is a reduction gear case, the oil needs changing, the bearings can be an issue too.
