Overheating Case Excavator.

Friend of mine…. Not on here. Has a 8ton Case excavator (2012) with Isuki engine. Very dirty coolant with scale? And brown sludge almost setting out to clay like substance. 4 loads of rad cleaner and lots of washing to get it circulating. Still pushing water back up the expansion but not overheating initially but once it blows water out then it gets hot. He suspect lt lack of maintenance/ possibly topping up with hard water rather than coolant?Not bubbling in tank, just pressures up, had a new thermostat. He’s asking me about flushing with our plumbing kit/chemicals that we use for boilers, but not my forte .

Better to take rad off and have it tested at specialists and maybe get a new core be a fairly cheap fix if its that, we had our js130 re cored for £440 where as it was £1800 for new radiator from jcb

that's the problem.
trouble is the rad cleaner works - all the accumulated crud starts moving and blocks the radiator core resulting in poor circulation and high back pressure.
A radiator place may be able to flush out the core after removing the tanks (if it's that bad) or (as above) recore for a sensible price.

My advice: never use use a cooling system flush without fitting a filter sock to the top hose first.

Just about the only time I'd suggest trying it without a thermostat, if running without a thermostat in is not approved of because of the excess speed of coolant circulation causing problems then this is the one occasion that it may be helpful in shifting the deposits

Update.. was radiator blocked 90%. Heater matrix needed cleaning as well. Machine now getting regular maintenance.
