Climate change my backside!!
Climate change my backside!!
lack of maintenance (and often vigilance) is the usual cause of a canal breachClimate change my backside!!
Interestingly just noticed it's not a CRT canal...owned by peel holdings....that's probably not looking like a great investment anymore
And Fiddlers Ferry power station.Think they’re one of the biggest land holders in the northwest own Manchester ship canal and the Trafford centre etc
Exactly. And a huge hole in the side and a few scruffy boaters moaning ....I'd predict it's gonna be gone for good..And Fiddlers Ferry power station.
We are about to see what happens with Staverton Airport or Gloustershire as the 2 coucils that own it insist it is now called.Peel Holdings..... crooks, that is the group that bought RAF Finningley with the proviso from the council was that it was to be a working airport only. It was turned into Doncaster Airport, I use airport loosely, a single building with a few shops and a bar, to begin with all was great, it had two or three decent airlines flying out of there and to places like the Dominican and Cuba as well as mainland Europe, then the big international routes started to fade away followed by the bigger airlines, Peel stated it was an infrastructure issue, so the local council invested in a new road network to link the M18 to the airport and funnily enough a large area of development land just off the side of the M18.
This seemed to do the trick for a few more years, then, again the larger of the remaining airline and holiday companies started leaving, Peel stated the airport was no longer viable and that the footfall was not meeting expected levels, when you look into it the reasons it was all rigged with Peel forcing airlines to either hike prices to cover vast charges levied by Peel group or leave, airlines found it was cheaper to fly passengers into the airport then fly the plane away to another airport to wait for another day than to leave it stood at Doncaster, I looked at all the charges levied by airports ( and I didn't realise what airports charge for ) and peel holdings was charging more for everything than many of the larger airports in the UK, so how were airlines going to use Doncaster, the airport is a 20min drive from my house but it was still cheaper for me to drive, park and fly from Stanstead than it was from Doncaster. So eventually Peel told the council it could no longer make the airport " profitable " and was closing it down, then not long after applied to turn the airport into commercial property use, something Peel is very good at, luckily Doncaster Council has some good people who listen to what the public said and realised what tricks Peel was upto and refused permission, now the Council has stepped in and the airport is due to reopen later this year. and hopefully along with Teeside airport ( which was also another Peel owned airport that " failed " ) they will thrive and put Peels nose out of joint.
Sounds like Cardiff airport run by the statsi.Peel Holdings..... crooks, that is the group that bought RAF Finningley with the proviso from the council was that it was to be a working airport only. said that was caused by climate change
said that was caused by climate change
So it was worse in 1971 - long before the current "global warming".assessing the scale of the damage, which represents the most significant breach of the canal since 1971.
