Local knowledge often helps explain thing Gra 👍🏻
Hope the driver wasn’t seriously injured 😳
Bet his boss is pissed off 😡
Wonder what offences he’ll be summonsed for 🧐

er ........ everything :ROFLMAO: ....
40MPH limit on two lane trunk road for him .... reckon his Tacho'll show50++ .... that bend is easily negotiable at 40 in anything, even a plastic pig.
will be surprised if he ever drives an LGV again ....... unless he was the victim of an O/S/F blow out on the apex ..... irrecoverable event, that'd be, even at 40mph
have suffered a N/S/F blow out at 40mph in a LHD Demag 30 tonner .... crossed the O/S lane and almost into the central armco, before getting a hold on the direction of travel and speed down to walking pace .... reckon it took years off my life

I think it might be sensible to delete any posts relating to location and contents of this guy’s garage tbh - it’s not the sort of info that should be available for the world to see IMO.
seriously alarmed MB ... due to its location

No disrespect Gra, but you are out of date with yer knowledge
The speed limit for LGVs on single carriageway roads was changed quite and few years ago now and increased to 50mph.
But all drivers should drive a a speed that is safe for the road conditions.
It's a LIMIT not a TARGET 🤓
Secondly, unless it was an old lorry running on analogue Tacho Charts then there will be no speed recorded. Digital drivers hours do not record the speed at any given time. However, since most lorry drivers use a GPS enabled dash cam this may record the speed immediately prior to the collision.
Marks made at the scene and the friction of the road surface may enable the officers to calculate the speed of the lorry IF it is a factor.
Mechanical defect (ie alleged brake failure) will no doubt be investigated by those wearing white caps at the scene 🐀👮‍♂️
Yep it in scary when you get a blowout when driving a heavy lorry.
Daily checks of the 14 tyres on them on grain lorry have saved my life a few times over the years.
Better to have a tyre fixed/changed in the yard then at the side of the road :ROFLMAO:

yeh, it's ten years or more since I had to be 'up' on it all Dave ....April '15 it was upped, but amazed the digi tachos don't record speed .... used to be one of the biggest 'bug bears' for drivers, with the charts, showing up overspeed.
the traffic cam. just before the bend is almost certainly gonna give a pretty fair idea of how many wheels were in contact with the road in that bend.;)

as for the blow outs .... too right ... have had 3 front blow outs over the years (plus several rears) and they are heart stopping .... crane front axles run constantly at their limits, so always kept fronts good/up to scratch ...... one was a week old Michy 12.00-20 (all 12.00-20s IIRC)

as for speed limits .... they're better classified as a target in a crane ...... one you'd be lucky to ever see  .. usually!! ..... 40 on the flat was good going and took some getting there.

Overspeeds are still recorded as in Europe they fine you for them but obviously in this country the overspeeds kicks in at 56mph but the speed limit is 60

Speeds are also recorded by a digital tachograph. However the main difference with a analogue tachograph is that the digital version records the speed on the vehicle unit and not on the drivers card. The speed is recorded every second the vehicle moves and stored for 24 hours. Anytime the vehicle doesn’t move, ie 9 hours rest, it does not count towards the 24 hours.

Therefore they should have no issues determining if the driver was speeding or not.

I just meant in terms of national speed limit and being done by vosa when ur pulled
Only really recent tachos have gps built in and not even sure what information is available via the gps so vosa can't knick you for doing 60 as they no idea where the overspeeds is recorded whereas over the pond if it records an overspeeds you've been speeding regardless

Is this in Scotland?

In rest of UK its 50mph on a single carriage way national speed road.

What does a Digital Tachograph record?

A digital tachograph collects and stores the following data:

  • Date Vehicle registration number
  • Vehicle speed
  • Single or co-driver
  • Number of times a driver card is inserted each day
  • Distance travelled by the driver, captured via odometer
  • Driver activity (driving, rest, breaks, other activities, availability)
  • Date and time of activity change
  • Events (over speeding, driving without a driver card, tampering, fraud attempts) and errors
  • Enforcement checks
  • Details of tachograph calibrations
