Old Rubber Tracks

Just thought I'd start a thread for these.

i just replaced a pair of original equipment Bridgestone tracks with a cheaper pair as recommended by my dealer. Was shocked by how much they squirm/snake and seemingly find any excuse to jump off the undercarriage.

2 tonner machine has 1500 hours roughly with normal wear on the undercarriage for it's age. Certainty no play as this has been checked thoroughly.

anyone got a recommendation or is there a well known quality alternative to Bridgestone. There seems to be an awful lot of rubbish out there.

i have asked for them to be replaced with another set of o/e tracks as I don't have the time for the aggro of tracks jumping ship.

as an extra thought what's the best method of disposal without burying them. No chance of throwing in the scrap bin i doubt.

I replaced Bridgestone tracks on my 803, with a TuffTrac tracks, they were half the price of the Bridgestone OE tracks, but certainly don’t run as smooth and I doubt they will last as long. Wish I’d forked our for the Bridgestones now.

Not had them jumping off though.

Are they definitely the right pitch???

I've checked the sizes (230/48/7o) and they have been supplied buy the dealer who sold me the machine from new. To be fair they have been out twice. Once with the 1st set. Then again with another set after my original complaint. And shortly with a set of o/e to be fitted next week.

i noticed digabits website list track sizing against machine models which helps with identifying.

They'll be gone well before then but I take it from that comment there's precious little iron in them?

whatever's left'd probably go in the scrap skip ... ain't gonna be combustible for sure, if it survives the inferno

Ebay. People love buying s**t on there and driving miles to collect it. Sold one very used track off my 801 when one broke and I replaced the pair - as you would with a right mind!
Got a quarter of the price of the pair back for that old track and saved the hassle of chopping it up and "loosing" it in skips on site.

Digbits (Cautrac I think they are) tracks seem good and have a 2 year warranty. Relatively cheap too IME.

I've got camoplast tracks on my Volvo ec35c, bought them through Volvo as an alternative to genuine, 2/3rds the price, 2 year warranty and Volvo took the old ones in for recycling f.o.c. 600 hours in with them and no problems and as smooth tracking as the originals.

I have some Terratrack on the 8 ton Kubota and they are shite - rough when tracking - come off if your not careful in rough going and seem to tear easily ,
they must of been cheap - it came off steels and I was offered a new set of rubber when I bought it - if that situation arises again i will know to ask for a decent brand.

For a better ride i find the tracks that have a pin for every tooth on the sprocket are the best. I cant remember if they are single pitch or double pitch but its quite a difference in ride.

Close pitch I think you mean ? but someone I know said he wouldnt have a set again because although it tracked smooth they struggled to get the s**t out in bad going and didnt last long ?, dont know if its right I have no experience of them.

Unfortunately I’ve found totally the opposite, despite the Sales blurb that suggested otherwise, the double pitch, or whatever you call them, basically they engage on every tooth, not just every other one, are absolutely atrocious compared to the OE tracks I had. On concrete they are a lot rougher ride, shake the machine to bits!

That's strange. I put some double pitch on a 1.5 ton and it transformed it. On a road it was very smooth. They were from digbits i think. What was up with your old tracks were they damaged or worn out.

Old tracks were OE Bridgestone on a JCB 803. Had lots of meat left on them, but sadly due to age, the belts broke, so they were goosed. I’d never considered if the OE tracks were ’smooth’ or not, but I certainly appreciated how good they were when I fitted the new ones. Maybe they are not all bad? These were TuffTrax, or something like that, from SPS iirc? Wish I’d treated it to another set of Bridgestone, it deserved it.
Moral of the story, for me anyway, you definitely get what you pay for!
