Hello Folk,,,,,,

I am an old old codger who has always played about with really old cars and I have an old dumper truck and an old JCB3C111

I was very fortunate when at 16 years old my mother got me into a 5 year engineering apprenticeship and the first 6 months was in the workshops learning how to gas weld and use a lathe and milling machine. Thank goodness!!!!!! We live a few miles north of Reading.

Anyway my old JCB is used to scrape a dirt lane myself and two neighbours share and i have a hydraulic take off to power a log splitter i made. I have had to do various jobs on the JCB over the years including changing the clutch and a few hydraulic components. Plus a good bit of welding on the various panels.

Now on to the dumper. I think it is probably late 70s or early 80s and to me who is a complete novice on dumpers it looks about a 1 ton but might be more. It is 4 wheel drive and the engine is a Petter PJ1 . It is a swivel type with hydraulic steering and hydraulic tipper bucket. The front brakes are hydraulic drum brakes and it looks like there should be a vertical master cylinder mounted on the rear chassis rail under the seat cover.

I have to dig out a fish pond and need the dumper to move the soil. I have got the petter engine runnibg well and the hydraulic steering and tipper are fine. Now i need to sort out the brakes but have no idea what the make or model is. It looks like there was an identication plate on the rear wing next to where the seat goes.

I would very happy if anyone can tell me the make and model dumper i have so that i can get the correct brake components.

Many thanks

Mike

I assume when you say swivel type you mean the centre pivot steering ? When referring to dumpers, swivel usually means the tub/skip itself is on a hydraulic swivel :)

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
quite a few dumpers of that age used Salisbury Land Rover axles, as far as I recall
I'd guesstimate that at 2-2.5t ... have seen one before with the same tip set up, but can't recall who's it was, but the skip and its pivots are unusual
she's a solid old girl though

Thanks for the suggestion . Have had a look at the WINGET site which has info on the 4B series but the brakes shown are disc which might be because the info has been updated . So perhaps my dumper is even older. Will take the drum off and compare piston , shoes etc with landrover series 111 data. Lot of similarities with my machine and the 4B WINGET so might be on the right track.

Disc will refer to the center brake/ handbrake I suspect on the prop.

Yes it's a early Wingate.

I have some pdfs i can upload when on pc. From when I was looking into the brakes on my forklift. They might be similar. I think its pretty important you use the right oil or fluid in them I think the book said there were 2 different axle brakes? I never got mine sorted in the end the reservoirs had deteriorated away. Mine has a handbrake with a disc that id been using.

at that age and with drum brakes it'll almost certainly be std DOT brake fluid

Starting to realise there are many variations for a WINGET dumper of the 1960s /70s which mine seems to be with the drum brakes.
Then there is the seat location…central or side. Skip can be on a turntable!

Have contacted WINGET and await their reply. They seem very helpful.

Tried uploading the docs I have but at 33mb each its saying they are too large. When I try to compress on PC they come out at basically the same size. If you PM me your email I could send that way maybe?
