Those Evo VI (and all that followed) were absolutely mental. In a previous life I was taken around Millbrook proving ground with 3 other big blokes in one by a racing driver. On the high speed bowl (which took most cars a full lap to get up to top speed) it accelerated to the rev limiter in top gear (approx 155mph) in less than half a lap - geared differently god knows how fast it would have gone!

Great cars! I owned no 269 out of the 1000 built.
Back then rally reps of that time were the fastest things on the road. Anything fwd or rwd didn’t stand a chance on a wet B road.
Mid pipe swapped out for scooby noise, otherwise left it standard… the power to weight was great, weighed less than most hatchbacks today, less than 1300kg I think?
Chewed through tyres, but in all honesty I was probably just a dick head in my early 20’s that thought he was Colin McRae
Be worth 50k plus now, was mint
Only car I’ve had that I’d get up super early on a Sunday and go for a big drive into wales.
Like you would/could do that now

The Spec C with roof vent up on the trough road was heaven....the noise and gearbox "feel" is indescribable until you've driven one

Spec C was the ultimate drivers car! but for me the 22B was just stunning. All the imports were more spicy. The three door jap version of the P1 had a roller switch by the gear lever to push more power to the rear wheels.
Only been to the Welsh rally once, watch through your fingers! Wow.

Can still remember my first forest rally ....freezing cold trudging up the hill. Hushed tones ...blokes in big coats and bobble hats ..still for ages then bam..quick whistle
That howl....unless you've heard it you'd not know it. Rattle of gravel and that "no way he's gonna make" feeling. Ahhh
then the drive home back through the lakes in a snaking line of cars flat out the inevitable spectator sliding backwards through a hedge.This threads going sideways nicely tonight

The old rac a week touring the UK 2am in the morning pitch black in the middle of the forest then you see the lights and hear the noise from the group b's

I went to the chatsworth rally afew times, that was mega, good show for everyone but didn’t have to be a diehard fan to go! Steve Perez was one of the main supporters then it all went quiet and never happened again.
