My renewal for the Hilux this year was £525 but I’ve had a new card since last year and the payment didn’t go through. I must’ve missed the email telling me this so this morning I got an email saying it had been cancelled. No problem I thought, I’ll just get in touch and sort it out. But no, they had to do a new quote and this time it was £924 Needles to say they got told where to stick that. Got insured through someone else for £474

Regarding the change in use for pick ups BIK and tax…

When the vat free Ranger Raptor came out in ‘19 that could only carry around 500kg and tow 2 ton I thought what’s the point?

Now I think perhaps ford were testing the water to see if there would be demand for a more luxury pick up for the car market once the “for work” market dries up?

I still remember rumblings since the first L200 landed here, that the tax breaks would dry up soon.

Had a gander at lease deals… new defender on a 2yr lease is coming in at around £340 a month, which all things considered I don’t think is too bad?
It’s bog standard at that - The only problem I see is if you add options on (like a tow bar) they charge you the full price of the option!!

Get price on aftermarket towbar.
Especially if you can fit yourself and just get someone to code it.

Seeing as fords and VW order books are pretty much shut they will have another few months to cover the next 1.5-2 years of orders, chances are a few big companies who run pickups as fleet for their pool cars might place large orders and will not be effected by the change for another 3-4 years

Nissan, Mitsubishi and others must have seen this coming when they pulled out of the market?

Mitsubishi completely pulled out of the UK, all of the car ranges were stopped too. Nissan pulled the navara out of Europe due to the stricter emissions and regs and as their joint ventures with Mercedes and Renault didn't pan out in any form, not worth their attempts to revise the model.
Mercedes could potentially, have done well if they had made an actual AMG version of the X class, considering how ford managed to convince people to buy a raptor with a wanky 2.0 diesel which the new shape can be had with a 300ps 3.0 V6 ecoboost petrol.......
Although the aus version gets 400ps due to different emission regs

Not sure I could stand having a new defender on a lease though, I'd be wanting to put serious miles on it, give it some stick greenlaning and screw things to the interior. Like an old one

That's the problem, the stricter rules are going to either push people to ev's not fit for purpose or manufacturers cutting back on the range of vehicles sold, not trims but only selling 1 or 2 models.
I think they can currently offset the total emissions across all of their ranges hence Aston Martin selling that mega expensive rebadged Aygo
It's odd that ford in Europe are trying to push for ev, yet in America are pretty much abandoning their ev f150 lightning, considering that the f150 is their best selling vehicle they must have little faith in a pure ev model being worthwhile

Think the rule is still going although it's just fines/penalties if they don't meet the whole group emissions target

Which they just add onto current range and ultimately the end user.

One massive merry-go-round that'll come to a stop spectacularly as the sensible solutions are now behind us.

They were ace them evos, car of my era along with imprezzas a lot ended up in sad places after their drivers thought they were makkinen
