I swear with the recent price hikes they are just trying to push everyone into leasing! Not that it’s cheaper by any means, but it’s a quick get out option to keep things moving!

My 21 plate ranger is on lease, goes back in April and I cannot wait! Never again. Hate the whole system, even though from a financial point of view its probably very close to what an 'old' defender or discovery costs, when you take into account my time to maintain them. But if I'm spending several hundred pounds a month on a vehicle I want it to be something I really like, is actually robust and basically actually fit for purpose....

Exactly, good luck finding anything with much more than 6.5t GTW now .

The tow bar deal is no Biggie.
If you go the ranger or amarok route DM me if you struggle with getting anything as I've spent far to much time in this topic. Plus I have a mate with the V6 ranger who bought at same time as me.
Something has to change....and it ain't going to be weight limits sadly I suspect...legit towing of machines over 2t will be pipe dream in the future imo.

What can be realistically done about this? I think the current towing laws are way out dated? It should be much easier to run a larger truck upto say 10/12 ton with out the hassle.

Its an election year..... surely niw is the time to push it

Pick ups are just that. Designed for lobbing bales of straw on and going across a sodden field. But here they have now become a status symbol so the manufacturers have developed a pick up based on that and then further fueled by the tax benefits.

At some point some law is going to have to change somewhere as the government will be unable to ignore the safety aspect of essentially encouraging people to run bent and more so in the current climate inefficient setups.
I doubt it will happen how we would hope in the deregulation of larger vehicles but more likely in a higher regulation of vans pickups and trailers.

Didn't say anytime soon and I reckon that it will be the efficiency factor that will trigger first. No matter their hatred of trucks, 1 18t truck is a lot better for the environment congestion and everything else than 10 transits.

That's the problem, don't think there is any double cab vans, that are not full size and lwb that can pull 3.5t

Iveco and Mercedes both do swb crew vans, couldn’t find any info on towing capacities mind.

Often been said but it would require a fairly major change in tax laws as currently as long as it's a protected 1t payload you ok....

And yet you can run a 90k Porsche for less.
Pretty obvious what's going on...

So ultimately are we such a small niche that it's impossible to build a new truck for? Surely a basic spec single cab pickup with 7t gtw and decent payload isn't impossible to build?

Or are we slowly being forced into running proper trucks?

Some easier way of running 10-12 ton combination would be great be it iveco mini artics or city/dray artics or just straight wagon 4x2 etc. Activated breaks on trailers giving 4.5 ton maybe etc would help small business

They are built already. Some by manufacturers that have a presence in this country. It's obviously not deemed worthwhile to import them.
