New Vs old 1.5t+ digger?

I want something a bit bigger than my micro but I think a 2-3 ton will be to big for the small domestic stuff I'm getting. How do the modern 1.8 ton things like sv18, e19, e20z and tb219 compare to a 15 year old tb016 or kx36?
Can you easily get spares for a early 2000 machine?
I know prices are inflated at the moment but I'm not looking at getting anything until summer at the earliest.

I’ve got a 2012 Volvo ec18c . I got rid of a 2000 3 tonne Hanix to buy it as I was worried about my towing weight . I was very impressed with the Volvo (still am) it’s reach is nearly as good as the older bigger machine but it does lack a wee bit in power . Fine for what I do though .

Didn't see that coming from Rory Tb016 parts shouldn't be an issue as they were made for a fair long time (and tbh don't need parts other than wear and tear). Tb219 is basically just a grave digger spec 016 (longer arm slightly bigger bum) so the way i look at it if you can't find a tidy 016 due to age look for a 219 as they are still being made (for how long who knows).

Depending how bad it's been it will be a lot better but never as new.

Should be as good as new, but sometimes bushings can spin causing wear in the parent metal. Think only line Boring will sort that out...

It'll never take up wear on the sides and if there's been a fair bit of play between pin and Bush it'll oval hole the Bush fits in from hammering away at it.

Depends how much work he's got for one. If you spend 10k on a digger ur not gonna use much it'll still be worth 8 in 3/4 years time. Buy new and it'll lose more than 2k in the same time (not at current prices I'll admit but that bubbles gonna burst at some point).

I’d like to address the balance .when you started out considering a 21 year old bit of kit it’s a big leap to buying a new one . How desperate are you to buy immediately?

I've done a deal on a 016 @3000hrs for 7k, it's not going to loose much value. I personally would.

I've been pricing up new ones but there all £20,000 +vat with twin aux. The cheapest was a yanmar sv18 at £19,000+.
I don't have loads of work for one and at least half the jobs Im doing couldn't have anything bigger than a micro. I think it makes more sense for me to spend half the amount and fix when required.

I’ve had mine for 5 years , it was 4 years old when I bought it . I’ve put a set of tracks on it and I’m about to pin and bush it . I’ve done about 1400 hours in it . I’ve serviced it regularly. Nothing else has gone wrong with it. Touch wood it stays that way

Anything older won't have twin aux and would be a pain to adapt if that makes any odds (tbh unless you want a rotator grab you don't need twin lines)

My Volvo has a pair of proportional control lines to the bucket . Most of them seem to have it but I have seen one for sale that didn’t so you would need to check . Mines a 2012
