Whats the train weight on the MAN?

Only 6 tonnes on my 4x4 (3.5 tonne gross, 3 tonne tow weight but that eats into payload). The rear wheel drive has 3.5 tonne towing weight but not sure what it’s train weight is (must be more than 6 tonnes I’d hope!).
Mine has been over a weighbridge at 7.2 tonne with a trailer and looked/drove fine…

List price on mine with a load of extras was nearly £54k plus vat, but they discount them heavily and it cost £35k plus vat. They have gone up quite a bit since though apparently.

A mate has a brand new (possibly still not been registered, but will be this week) 177bhp mwb auto front wheel drive with a nice spec (led lights, upgraded media package, reverse camera, AC etc etc) in blue that he’s probably going to sell as it took forever to arrive (in which time he bought another van). The FWD have a lower floor height in the back which is great for working in etc (and ideal for converting to a camper). Think he’s after offers around £38k plus vat.

I've a mate had a man on order for over a year now. Since he ordered they've gone up over 8k. We think the salesman he's dealing with has sold his van a few times and is hoping if he drags it out long enough my mate will cancel saving the salesman losing 8k. Trouble is mates the definition of stubborn when he wants to be

Those salesman occasionally get burnt..
Someone I know ordered a very nice iveco 7.2t rig. Odd size and weights etc for his line of work...
They messed him about etc etc..so when they rings him up to say it's ready...he walks away..
It's been on their forecourt for at least 2 months now 🫣🫣

It'll probably be dictated by what you can get your hands on
But I've a feeling things may alter next year ...
I'd love a crew cab 4x4 for the days out but mega money for nice ones...

I've still got it in my head you can't drive over 3.5t without an operators license unless it's a special purpose vehicle, like 4x4 pickup or something. Am I wrong with this

I paid 36k for my iveco, to buy one now the same spec is 52k. Prices Inc vat. In less than 2 years how can it be 16k more to make/build.

because demand has been outstripping available supplies for some time ..... might be a different story when supply exceeds demand

Motor vehicles and trailers​

You need a licence for a motor vehicle and trailer combination if:

• the motor vehicle and the trailer(s) are plated and the total of their gross plated weights is more than 3,500 kg
• the total unladen weight of the vehicle and trailer combination is more than 1,525 kg

You do not need an operator’s licence if your trailer’s unladen weight is less than 1,020 kg and you only carry your own goods.

Trailer under 1020kg and own goods is how I understood it.

Don't forget to add a pair of ramps to the trailer weight though.... @Justme

Iveco are the best chassis cabs/tippers IMO.
I’ve recently had a MAN TGE panel van (exactly the same as a VW Crafter) and it’s the bollocks.
Transits are for pikeys - you either are one or they will nick it off you as it is rightfully theirs in the first place!

That’s why after a lifetime (20 odd year and 20 odd vans) of panel transits when it came to needing a tipper I had to go for a different make!
