New vans

Due to ULEZ expanding next year we have to change 2 vans, we do 99% of our work in wimbledon on new build projects. Just trying to decide what to go for/look at. Currently run a transit custom lwb which want to change for something bigger anyway and a transit crew cab tipper.

On the tipper side im quite keen to look at the iveco daily, i think will have to go crew cab/tool pod as quite often carry tools. Has anyone had any experience with the tool pods are they secure? Also is there anything to look out for on the ivecos/ want to make sure is on it.

The panel van thinking either a iveco daily aswell or a bigger transit again does anyone have any experience with either?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I've got an Iveco Daily panel van. Great vehicle. I use it mainly for towing, but took it into central London earlier in the year to a job. I have the auto box and it is a great bonus in traffic. The downside is they are so wide. If I were not needing to tow I would look at a narrower van such as a VW Transporter as they are much better squeezing through in congested spaces.

I’m still looking for a tipper.
I’ve found that, transits even the single rear wheel with crew or tool pod will not carry a ton. Minus two blokes and tools and I couldn’t even put a tracked barrow on the back.
I’d imagine Iveco the same?
I’m looking at Citroen relay now, with a non factory all Ali body payload is about 1200kg.
It’s a minefield!

I don't bother locking the tool pod, bugger all of value left in there. And it's alot less damage as they can open it up to look rather than smash it open.

Ivecos are the only trucks I've not killed off yet.

But be warned you'll not get 400kgs on any tipper with tool pod full of tools.

Don't know what they are like but those Chinese maxus vans advertise a really impressive carrying capacity in comparison to transits

Yeh the load the crewcabs can take is always a issue. We dont have tools in it often normally all in the panel van but useful to have for those wintery days/ if need to be in 2 places. Will need to tow with both of them aswell, one of the reasons i want to up the custom to something bigger.

Cant get away without locking in wimbledon so many vans get done, we have extra locks and alarms fitted.

Oh and train weights on transits need careful attention depending on which ratio axle.

Ivecos are awesome due to the 7t train weight but heavy.

Citroen Peugeot Fiat tow 2.5t but maybe a touch lightweight built for the “heavy user”😉

Isuzu and Mitsubishi Canter tow 3.5t but I’m told get stuck on the flat on wet leaves and are a bit bouncy.

That’s all I’ve found out so far in my search😁

I looked at those, there’s a thread from a few months back.
Loved the spec, payload and 5year warranty.

I discounted them eventually due to availability of spares if the importer does one in the recession and not much in second hand bits being relatively new.

Prob a bit too cautious approach but I intend to pay upfront and keep mine for a good few years.

@Gunners did a video on YouTube earlier about towing if it helps

In this age of transits it does raise the question what’s the point of the twin wheels?
There’s a lovely single wheel tranny with roller shutter box at Furrows in shrewsbury for £26k + looks virtually new, I was set until I investigated the payload.
Gutted😂

better off with a van and small tipping trailer then surely ? .... don't see the point of a pick up that won't carry anything more than a big sarmie box

my old Iveco 7.5t truck wasn't a lot better on a slick surface ... if going anywhere vaguely so so, would always stick a 1200kg test weight block over the back axle if running light ... was a nice truck though and 12t train weight
