Is the problem contaminants or soil stability ??
My old boss put an enormous straw shed up on built up ground and all they did was ask for footings to be doubled so ended up with nearly 4 cube of concrete under each stauntion
This was without a concrete floor

Bit of both think, they are grabbing at straws got to put it on a raft because it’s where they did brine extraction for the salt works across the road

I recently done the pads for an industrial building, it was historically made up ground. Pads were huge and some were nearly 3m deep. Several of them to circa 18m of readymix each! With many taking around 12m each.

Yes I know, but this thing is on another scale to your creation.
the raft will eliminate the need for all that bollox. Have you had the raft designed? Or is it just an idea/suggestion/method in writing?

Bloody council are a right bunch of jobsworths they pick on the working man as they are easy targets, the big outfits can bury them in paperwork for all sorts of s**t for next to no cost so they don't bother them but if you try and get on with things yourself they pull any amount of bull crap out to try and stop you doing what you want and costs a bob or two to appease them

You’re right there Mike, the s**t the big house builders get away with is unreal. I didn’t realise how bad it was until I did my own extension. Structural engineers are other ones that take the piss, the foundations for my wee extension were way over the top.

if it's on a raft there's no need for anything else then ..... it'll float on whatever is under it ... that's the idea of the raft FFS

my thoughts of having plates cast in the concrete will mean the base plates will be level with the top of the concrete so when I put the concrete panels in they will sit flat on the floor and not sat on the base plates at the ends but an inch gap in the middle
Anyway seem to have bigger fish to fry first, the council have have archived information that the site was a landfill (not bin wagons) but imported spoil and clay to build the ground up bullshit it was merely moved from the adjacent plot so have to get a few bore holes done and tested maybe a bit tricky at the moment with the lock down

if they are worried about radon could just put a radon barrier below the conc to satisfy the planning condition.
