Hi To All. Whilst I`ve gleaned a great deal of information/advice from this forum over the years I`ve finally taken the plunge and am introducing myself here. I`ve always found forums to have been a fountain of knowledge readily provided to those in need. Whilst classic cars are my hobby I`ve also have a elderly Case 580K,a Bobcat 323 and Case 895 Tractor and and a Lamborghini 600 tractor all of which are/were used over the years in my building business and because I enjoy getting covered in grease and oil ( fellow members will understand this fetish I`m sure!!!) Anyway so "flannel" over I need help with a Benford 3 ton dumper I`ve acquired. It`s got a Lister 3 cylinder engine which is throwing out oil from a pushrod tube in the middle pot. My questions are where do I start, what manual is available and finally is it an inevitable can of worms?? Hoping for help.

What sort of classics do you do sod the plant

Have owned numerous car classics over the years. Always returned to my first love MGs. Currently 1955 MGTF1500 and a 1949 MGTC

Air cooled 3 cylinder, there are o rings on the push rod tubes, the centre pot always gets hotter and over time the o rings get brittle and leak, you can removed heads separately to replace the o rings but probably better to do all three!

Thanks Mick. Am I to assume that if the head is to be removed as you recommend if doing all three that I`d need or be advised to decoke at the same time?

Don’t take to much coke off it helps with compression, head gaskets are copper rings

Thanks again Mick. Collected the necessary parts to replace the rod seals and a manual. However apart from advising the use of Hellerine rubber lubricant on reassembly there is no indication of a sort of step by step guide to remove and replace the seals. Is it a case of start taking it apart and things will become obvious.

Correct, it’s easy to say I’ve done loads, but for a novice it can be tricky
