will dig a hole very proficiently .... came with a skip too ..... business end de-mounts for skip fitting ... well thought of for what they are ... that looks a reasonable example

I almost picked up a Tusker about 6 months ago think the guy wanted £750 but heard so many negative things about them plus it wasn't really what I was after I passed on it.

That Micron on eBay has been listed on and off for a couple months, I'd be more interested in the Powerfab 360 he's also selling it's such a rare beast I think parts could be an issue, it's also missing more than the legs so could end up being a money pit.

At the risk of sounding like a "Towable Digger Snob" if that is a thing or just really picky I really want to find one with driven wheels (not a Tusker though).

I would consider one of the lowly pull yourself along types at the right money.

think you've made the right assessment of the powerfab .... that's a walker too, but bet it'd take some walking about
the tusker at that money, if decent, was a gift, but they are a big beast, but can certainly dig well.
what are you going to be using it for?
the little Microns, although small are very capable .... once did a couple of hundred feet of 5-6ft deep trench for a neighbour with mine, in a leisurely weekend, piped and back filled ... in decent ground they fairly rip it out ... also very good at getting indoors too ... a mate dropped the floors in his big old farmhouse in a couple of days with it ..... slowest part was his barrow team apparently :giggle: ... biggest drawback with most of the walkers is the 170 deg. slew .... hard work in corners :rolleyes::(

Honestly in this day and age where it seems walking behind a roller is an offence i can't understand why you wouldn't be looking at a micro or 1.5 tonner. At the very least you're money is safe as so long as you buy wisely you're not gonna lose much if you decided to get rid later.

Yeah the Tusker although rough was cheap but as you say they are quite big and seemed to be as clumsy as I had been told.

All I want it for is digging some footings, general small landscape work and such.

One thing that turns me against tracked mini diggers is they are more likely to get stolen.

Plus they cost more, so more money tied up in something that won't earn it's keep for the work I'll be using it for.

Saying that some of the prices people are asking for towable units are so close to mini digger money it may eventually become a sensible option!!!!

But you might as well have something easier to use and better for the jobs you want doing.

If money being tied up is a problem is hiring one not a better option.
Then you get exactly what you want every time be it a 3 tonner or a micro you have the perfect machine.

I must say sometimes I struggle to have the patience for a a proper digger let alone one that has to drag its self around .

Final comment is if you want something cack handed have you looked at smalley's

Just buy a tracked mini digger and be done with it Po, the world is full of corpses of the failed dreams and aspirations of people that went half cocked and got shot as a result.

I love old kit, and I also am no stranger to oddball stuff, but I run 3 mini diggers and wouldn't be buying a "walker" (dragger, piece of badly engineered British nonsense) unless I had another steep access job which it suited with a winch.

Walkers are a relic from a crap idea of the British in the 1970's that a towable digger that has all the joys of a backhoe loader with a failed clutch was a good idea.

Spend the coin and buy a tracked machine.

And whilst we are on the subject, those Smalley's/SMCs are only used by council's for a reason.
