So could an expanding bucket be made that goes from say 300 out to grading size is leafs of 300. Some sort of ram to extend them out and lock them in place.

Should be possible, had similar thoughts a few years ago but never looked any further into it.
Issue would be ram/s positioning, build up crap stopping it shorten, plus you'd be limited in choices for sizes

There is something like that out there, not sure if it was on the old forum??, have seen a “V” bucket one that was very smart.
