Hired a flail today to get to a rotten fence line through of brambles.
The 1 I had seems to be more for long grass than lowering on to saplings etc.
1st time ever hired or used 1, it did ok but think wrong type.
Any advice?

Also how sharp anything is on a hire machine.
And if it's a standard machine it's mounted on or a high flow. Whilst the normal avants have a good flow the I models are the best for running a flail
yes, flow rate will make a big difference.

A compact tractor is much better though!!

The big Avant with the high flow is impressive. But I do think that flailing should be considered a bonus on a compact loader rather than it's primary role.
I've seen a few companies post on Facebook that they have bought them as mowers and it doesn't really seem a logical choice to me.

I bet the big avant still won’t touch a reverse drive alpine for mowing.

pains me when I see posts on fb of an avant going up and down a field with the mower on with them thinking it’s amazing.

Definitely. And can't understand why you would buy such an expensive machine to put on a finishing mower instead of an out front deck. And the collector mowers with the tiny collector box on top looks like a form of punishment.

I know it sounds daft but you did have both pumps turned on. One of our lads got very cross with an 860i and flail until we switched the aux pump on for him.
Failing that it either had the wrong flails for the job or blunt flails. The genuine Avant flails will do some damage although the earlier ones where better built, the newer ones have a better float setup.

Yeah both pumps on. Like I said it worked but seemed to kick in better on the grd. Guess by what you said there is a float setup which we noticed.

After some advice if possible.

Front left wheel had an issue with a tyre valve had it replaced in December as it was leaking air.
Noticed especially at low speed the wheel is like it has a flat spot. I don't know anything about the drive hubs as hydrostatic drive is there anything I can check if I take the wheel off? Would there be a wheel bearing in the hub?

I will swap wheels when it's back off site 1st to see if it still happens

Should be easy to tell if it’s a flat spot, just drive it on tarmac. If you’re suspecting a bearing, jack it up and rock the wheel, after checking wheel nuts or bolts. TBH on a lot of these small machines, even the good ones, the hystat systems aren’t the most advanced and often “hunt” at low speeds, especially with cold oil.

Yes it's on tarmac that I've noticed it more

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
has the bead mounted properly ? or is it cock-eyed on the rim ... have mentioned a few times the issue my TMS180 Grove used to have with the front wheels, slipping in the beads, due to weight, when stood - was like driving on egg shaped wheels for a while 'til it sorted itself

Fairplay to the girl she has moved, mixed, lifted, dumped a huge amount of stuff these last 2 weeks, telehandler would have been too big.
Worth its weight without a doubt.
Virtually retired the hired mini digger and dumper
