Mulcher head for a 14 tonne Volvo with a Engcon

Looking for a Mulcher unit with a Forest rotor to go under an Engcon on a 14 t Volvo.
Anyone have any experience or advice here as there is quite a choice out there in terms of price, size and quality etc.
Looking at a new unit, would consider second hand but looking for hens teeth really. Had a few prices back but liking the look of the Femac range.
It would be used for rhododendron, gorse and various thicker trees and scrub.

We have a big Axer fixed blade tree shear and was going to go down the chipper route, ie cut the brash etc with the shear and chip it on site but for the same price as a good second hand 150mm chipper it would seem more cost and time effective to go down the Mulcher route and do everything in one pass from the comfort of the cab.

Thoughts?

Try and get a demo on one before buying would be my advice. And make sure you do everything you can to get as much of your available oil flow through the mulcher - don’t plumb it in below the tilty, take the oil feed directly off the dipper.

It's not as critical on bigger machines but a note to anyone wanting to run hyd motor attachments on smaller machines, it's not just about max flow available it's returning the oil back to tank as well.

I don't know about the mulcher but a 150mm chipper would be painful on rhodey clearance
It really needs a 300mm drum chipper

With most clearance jobs need fix tooth mulcher to get the root as well as that will be back in a few years

Thanks for all the input….. Dury is still out as to what we do.
These Mulcher‘s aren’t cheap and we already have a Tree shear and a Zippo lighter. However having just had the latest prices back for gas oil from the suppliers we won’t be using to much of the red stuff to get the pyre going

Still waiting for some Mulcher prices back so we’ll see how we go
