Mud and prop rollers.

Just thinking about my next machine and clearly id want proportional rollers in it if poss- however it just dawned on me as I clamber into the cab for probably the 50th time of the day covered head to toe in mud. Pedals are pretty resilient to detritus building up- but thinking a prop roller covered in shite might not fair so well with dirt dropping down into the mechanism. Anyone experience any problems? I dont have the luxury of staying in the cab all day with nice clean hands!

Wear gloves.
It takes a while but eventually you get in the habit of putting them on and off as you get in the machine

The standard joysticks in a machine should be IP67 or something rated, Tiltrotator rollers aren't, and aren't suitable for open cab machines.

They should be fairly resilient to abit of hand dirt

Yeah you got it! It's not a problem if im just doing digger work all day and need to hop out every now and again- I get the glove sentiment for that. This is another level of filth. Stone facing an earth bank- Il be out the cab every 2 mins (and that's not an exaggeration) picking up rocks tamping soil which are caked in it- not a problem in dry weather when it's dust but when it's wet and claggy it's just a bloody nightkare- even going for a pee is an ordeal. Looking at the state of my joysticks today I can just see a roller getting clogged. Suppose I could put bags over them or something when it's those conditions to protect it a bit as probably wouldnt actually be using the rollers then.

I've had a lad kill a steelwrist roller getting into the machine after jetwashing the tracks most of the manufacturers rollers are a more sturdy affair that muck wont get into as much but id still not want to be getting them filthy.

it sounds like you need to be getting a lad so you cant watch him get filthy

Now we're talking! Split resistant would be best to prevent any accidental ingress.

I get out that often some days and still do gloves just about every time.
Seeing as I am very unprofessional and get off forwards they are on by the time I'm off the machine.
It's more a habit to get into than anything.
And maybe a bit of string through your sleeves might help to keep them to hand

It’s not just a roller problem, all my pedals leak as they don’t like fine sand. Just treat them as a wear item and replace them when they start to be a problem. In the big scheme of things a few replacement rollers are loose change.
