do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
I’ve got a 10/60 with the gate post wrecking half shaft still intact, been sat years but water got down the exhaust & would love to put a 6 pot in her. I was toying with the idea of trying to shoe horn a v8 Cummings into it, my dad has one in an old D series sat in a hedge row that needs cutting up. I used to have a Nuffield DM4 with the belt pulley. I’ve just bought a MF 165 because a customer sold his land & didn’t have any use for it so I’ve got it to take up space & come out once in a blue moon. You can never have to many tractors
that'll be an 8.8L V8 Perkins in there, not Cummins ... the Perkies used to hunt badly on a steady throttle for some reason
a 504 or 555 would be some motor in a traccy - hard to find a good one, in one usable piece :( and they're a big 8.3L lump to shoe horn into anything

I cut my teeth on old stuff from the past, except at the time it wasn’t that old. First bits of Kit I operated were a McConnell backhoe on the linkage of an IH 434, Bonser LS55 rough terrain fork lift, and a B100 Drott. Plus a good few tractors that are now collectible.
My father was in the forestry trade and ran the Nuffields and Zetors as he wanted something simple and could fix himself the Chaseside was bought because he liked it and was sat in the woods rotting away was put to work pushing trees out and he had a Hymac 580c with the perkins engine aswell would of loved to still had that, so been brought up around them the Field Marshall was bought as he always wanted one because grandfather had a series 3 the TD9 was bought as our old lamdlord passed away and dad was the only one aloud to buy it. I've got no interest in modern kit in anyway shape or form tried working for a tractor dealer last year and just couldnt get into it, but give me something old and I'm onit and happy at that, there was a chap at the dealership 6 month younger than me and said he had no interest in working on old stuff because or rust a dirt. Thats halve the fun in my eyes dont think he knew what an imperial spanner was dread to think what he'd do if I mention whitworths. Had a few people say they can't get anyone to work on the older stuff but run a mile when I say my rate which is quite funny to be honest. I got fed up of driving in quarries as felt like I wasn't doing anything all day at least with fixing stuff I can see what I've achieved.

My Universal has those shafts and they haven't been cut down which you dont see often. I know of a chap that put a Cummins 6bt in a Marshall for tractor pulling that sounded well. My 1060 has the 5.1 BMC engine and brother killed it by not sheeting it down and same as yours water got into it, we saved it a few times but the last time water was to top of the air filter and had 12litres of water in the sump, going to have to rebuild it as finding another 5.1 is quite hard and atleast I know that I would have a good engine at the end of it.

Not currently as got a few pressing projects on at the minute and dont need more yet to be honest. Plus I rent yard space on a farm dont think my landlord would be happy with that turning up and blocking the yard up, if I owned my place then things would be different I would have reams of iron lying about.

Neat lines make it fine 😆
I go through phases though, sometimes I'd happily fill the whole place up, other days I just want one really nice tractor 😆 🤣

Yes, or a larger one with a couple sheds to put everything in, was saving to buy a place but the prices are rising faster than I can save plus with developers buying up to put houses on I don't have much of a chance.
seems to be a common theme on here ...
land prices massively outpacing folks' abilities to be able to compete with developers, for even the most 'unattractive' of sites ...
and is only going to get worse, sadly - we live on an island with an ever diminishing, finite area, of usable land, increasingly sought after to meet the perceived need to build housing for an ever increasing population

Yes seen several bits that would of been ideal but goes for more than twice the estimated value, seen less than an acre plots advertised over 30k and they get that. I dont see the need for all these houses the village im in has currently got 27 going up but thats a shambles as its taken nearly 8 years and only 3 houses are finished, 4 had to be knocked down to be built again and I expect a few more will need to taken down, local town has just had a planningapplicatiom for 200 after another applocation for 90 was rejected. Soon wont be any more land about. If my Great Grandfather didn't sell the farm I'd of been allright I think.
