Hi Chaps I'm thinking of fitting a non hydraulic thumb to my e10/dx10 has anybody got one fitted? Any reccomendations,pro's and con's etc? Thanks.

I can't comment on micro suitability as haven't used one on a machine that small but all I would say is the beauty of a thumb is being on the machine as and when you need it- but if you have to get out to start messing around with manually setting it up the convenience is lost- if you have auxs feed the slight extra cost of hydraulic ram would be money very well spent imo

I have a hydraulic thumb on my mini, would echo the above.
I got a Hardlife one and it has had problems with the hydraulics since day one, they were rubbish to deal with. Works ok now after multiple repairs/niggles.
When I was looking the RSL Engineering one looked to be a better option but Hardlife could get it to me sooner which worked for the job I had lined up for it.
For me it's a great tool to have to hand. I think non-hydraulic would be really limiting. Just bear in mind it adds some weight to the end of the dipper so will make the machine more tippy. And also can get in the way when digging awkward trenches. Think carefully how you set it up to get the geometry right.

I think the thing about a thumb on a Micro is you might as well get off the seat and move it yourself because it wont be anything very big or far away. That said, I would like to try one on the E10, but the tilt scandi bucket hardly every comes off now so thats my Aux all used up.

I'm a fan of the RSL ones myself. The one on my dad's cat is of the design that uses the bucket pin for the thumb too- but it makes the thumb very wide and actually rather bulky also easy to side load .
The RSL ones are tough as nails- massive rams compared to the competition and the same width as the dipper means you don't even notice it on there for trenching or looking past it. Also being narrower means the pinch point is always in line with the dipper/middle of the bucket so it works really well for accurate tasks- could pick up an egg with mine- maybe

I've got a hard life one. I can say I've had no issues with it at all. Very heavy duty and large ram.
It's for a 1.5t, but like said above it puts alot of extra weight on end of dipper. I made it fit the 2.7t and its plenty man enough. In fact it stays on the 2.7t, it's not quite long enough but works well.

We made a few smaller thumbs a few years ago, i might have one left ul check tomorrow.
