That wants buying if it's not rusty. Low milage looks very well looked after, fantastic spec and rare as.

I'm a big fan of this sized Merc (should never of sold mine) the 1324 solves the one issue mine had which was too smaller engine. It's fairly lon wheelbase but for what you want it'll be perfect and those mercs have the best lock of a lorry that size.

IMHO I'd say it'll happily take 7-8t. The Merc 1317 skip lorry I had would carry 8t theoretically (Volvo 15 tonner would carry around 8.5t) personally I'd not be in a hurry to go up tonnage unless your fetching machines daily.

Check the width as they are quite a bit narrower than a larger wagon. They rust under the cab footwells mostly. Also check the electronics are good as they are quite electric heavy.

Check suspension bushes as being a RoRo they are prone to wear.

I'd jump at it though. It's not cheap cheap, but with the milage on it it's a steel.

Be warned O license can take a few months to arrive.

There is this option with a set of ally ramps instead. Or there is a set of hl5 hookgear on eBay for £1500 quid

Thats what I was wondering. 12t are cheap 15/16t don't come up very often.
What weight would a 12 t give you on the bed , what size digger could you go ? 5 t ? I suppose you need a bit of leeway for buckets etc

It’s sold , gutted ! I hope someone on here didn’t get in first then I will be kicking myself
I can actually be a bit flexible regarding the lorry as I don’t already own a mid weight machine . This would be bought after the Lorry but I wouldn’t really want to go lighter than a five tonner to allow for buckets etc . If going up to a 15t lorry have me a 7tonne machine capacity I would consider this also.

Cheers Rory , I should of put a deposit on it over the phone . It would of been worth risking the 500 quid to have first dibs at it . A downside of living up here is always the time it takes to get onto a good thing when they come up. I’m gutted 😡
Something else will come up , keep me in mind if you come across anything I will travel the length of uk for the right lorry

If your serious about getting a truck. I would look at starting the O licence application, as Rory say it can take months. At least if you have one granted you can use your truck once you've bought it, rather than just look at it on the yard:D

It might be worth giving these lot a ring. They always have loads of smaller hookloaders for sale. And there stock seems to change regularly. They might also help to decide on what weight class to look at. https://mhf.uk.com/hook-loaders/

I’ve started the process but I will move it on now . After giving it more thought today faced with the reality of buying one I’ve come to the conclusion it should work for me really well.

Look for a short wheelbase and max 5m bin, mines 3.8m wheelbase and goes everywhere no prob and a 6t machine fits in lovely with back doors shut.

I have 10t payload in the bin (19t truck) so on muck away we fill it as much as poss and it is always around its 10t limit on the weigh bridge so I reckon its well judged - chassis/bin/payload - unless your moving something light and large for general ground works if you have a larger bin its just a waste of payload, so at a pinch on a 12/15t truck you could go to 4.8m bed to carry a 6t machine and not be carting around bin you can't fill anyway on aggregates/muck away.

Deff get diff lock if you can, my last one hadn't got it and this one has and it makes all the difference if you need to get off the road on a job or back into a field entrance with aggregates or to load etc

When i started looking I started a thread and got some great advice from the lads on here that helped me choose the right setup, check that out.
