Measurements of a dipper arm...

Does anyone know where the measurements of a dipper are taken from. I looked at a Volvo at the dealers yesterday- and was taken back with the what I consider fairly small grading envelope. I'm convinced that it has the short dipper option on but dealer reckoned otherwise but was taking the measurements from the top bush where the dipper ram is attached as opposed to the main pin where the dipper is attached to the boom. Either way I think he's wrong because it's a EC20e model which is supposed to have another 8" over the 18e and was the same length when I measured. Slightly annoying because it just didn't feel right at all.

Ive answered my own question. 100% it's a short dipper model. I find it slightly odd that first look at it and I thought something wasn't right with it and confirmed those thoughts the moment I started using it yet the Volvo salesman who's has been selling them for a long time was still sure it was a long dipper. If I was a salesman I'd know ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING there is to know about the product I'm selling inside and out.

Normally short dippers the bucket ram cylinder pins is around the same place as the boom to dipper pin when looking at dipper side on and dipper is vertical
Longer dippers the bucket ram pin is a noticeable amount away for boom to dipper pin

Yeah. That's how I worked it out in the end. This is the machine. Seen another online with a long dipper and there is far more space between the two pins

Tbh it would be easier if they just put it on the model ID, jcb used to do it on the excavators(not sure if they still do!) but it made ID easy!
