I've been working away from home staying in a airBnB house rental with the family and a hotel room for my employee. Had a great Thursday( got enough footage in to make $9k by 11am!) and three day weekend. A long run with only two boxes and one line to hand dig/locate. Doesn't happen often but when it does its a beautiful thing. The bugs are CRAZY here though.

I run the excavator and the vibratory plow like a train with a tow strap. The plow will go by itself 80% of the time but would get stuck the other 20 and it goes twice as fast pulling together. On a sandy driveway like this one it just would have dug itself in without the excavator to help.

With two or four wheels on the road the blade offset the plow does ok on its own but way better connected. This was only a 60ft run so I did it plow only and it almost pulled this crappy road up. The conduit is on the ground because the reel trailer was a little ways away and it was faster to just stretch out some more the reel it back up that to move the trailer.

We can’t go above 15400 lbs without a world of paperwork (and a maximum of 7700lbs for either the truck or the trailer). That’s why we often scratch around with little toys over here!

Tbf everything is littler I've seen the damage the fibre gangs do with a 1.5t and a shovel, could you imagine what they would do with a 6t machine and a trencher

I very rarely use the trencher. The vibratory plow is what gets it done. This is going in @28" to top of pipe some place is have to do 38" to top!

Most of the time you can barely tell I was there.
Roots, no problem.

This is a section I just finished plowing. I used to trench but backfilling and restoration kills you when your doing 1000ft a day. My best day with the plow was 3600ft!

do it as well as you can,but learn to do it better
My setup tags out, truck and trailer at 26k lbs combined max. 26,001lbs requires a CDL. Actual weight with tools and machine is 25k.
13 federal tonnes is quite a figure for a plain ol' pick up truck, but you do get to have proper engines in your pick ups :giggle::giggle:

The fibre here is supposed to be 300mm but we have found it 10mm below the tarmac. And fibre gangs over here make one hell of a mess trying to skimp on material constantly. They use soil screenings to reinstate instead of topsoil, regularly see block paved paths reinstated with tarmac. And even in tarmac footways the quality of the tarmac is awful.

For sure. When you do underground you find all kinds of shoddy work. I located a underground power line to a house that was less than one shovel deep, supposed to be 4ft.

@V8Druid This ram truck has either 800 or 850ft/lbs of torque, can't remember which. Rated at 17k lbs max trailer weight conventional hitch or 20k gooseneck.

is that a ball type hitch @Keif ... what diameter is the ball for the 8.5 Fed. tons capacity ... we're restricted to 3,500kg on our 50mm ball couplings ... or are you using a jaw type hitch to achieve the capacity .. really interested in your coupling types

2.5" receiver with 2 5/16" ball. The hitch can do both regular and pintle, my reel trailer has a pintle.
Was taking the dog for a walk tonight and a neighbor flagged me down and brought me these blue crabs caught today within 100yrds of the house!

a ditch witch i belive
Yeah an older but strong ditch witch horizontal directional drill. I paid 45k for it with locator system, trailer and 400 gallon water tank and mud mixer water pump system. You can steer the drill head as you bore.

Pipe pusher is a proper description of how it works lol.

Hopefully it will pay for itself in two weeks then start making money.

A new drill of this size is around 250k.
