Guys, why does Manitou telehandlers, after year 2011 roughly, have chains on the boom? does it aid with tallying in and out? It must be a successful modification because they stuck with it. JCB uses the usual ram idea

Do you mean for the aux hoses to extend like these here?

I havnt bought one yet but was in the process of. Is that what the chain is for to extend the AUX piping out with the rest of her?

Not sure whether you mean the plastic hose carriers as mentioned above or the large metal chains that pull the middle section of the booms out.
The first one is on some jcbs aswell
It's either that or they run down the middle of the boom.
The latter is again some and some on all telehandlers with multi section booms
Sometimes the put the ram to extend the first section on the top of the boom and the second section inside the boom.
Or they put one extension ram inside the first section and as the first section extends
A chain pulls the second section out
A second chain acts in reverse to retract it.
I think I've seen both systems used somewhere in the line up of most manafactures although think the chains for extension tend to be bigger machines with 3 or 4 extension

JCB’s 20 metre Tele handlers have chains for the 2 nd section, and manitou used to use them on most handlers over 12 m I think,

I'd guess he means the lacing chain above the hose chains @Giles ... commonly used on mobile cranes too

Yeah I've seen it on many machines but thought it was an old idea until I seen the new Manitou MT1840 machines. Thanks for that guys. Very helpful
