Mag Drill

so for some unknown reason i am getting quite a decent bonus and would like to put some of it towards a mag drill. But here is the kicker i wont use it as much as you guys will only really be for stuff around the house and the new place when we move so not looking to spend to much on it. ideal budget would be around the £200 mark yes i know would only get me a cheap ebay or amazon one but that is all i need really so is there any decent ones you see on them sites. would look for a 2nd hand one but not able to get it till pay day which is next week so might not still be about then also really needs to be 240 volt as wont be doing any site work with it only private at home stuff

sadly you're gonna struggle ..... never seen so few s/h ones on fleabay Andy ... could usually pick up summat in budget

I've used the evolution blue one
They do a slightly cheaper one aswell
I haven't used more expensive ones but it was perfectly accurate it did a lot of work and never faulted and evolution seem to be pretty well respected for backup.
I've used quite a bit of there kit and it is always good value for money

they don't seem to be a bad little tool TBH .... might not stick a w/shop environment, but for irregular/infrequent usage, probably fine ..... an' that one's a 42 mm cap. too

drilled out some 44mm bushes with my evolution drill tother week

The oil bottle is junk and far better with a washing up liquid bottle to manually apply the oil but surprisingly robust apart from that

I use a pressurised spray bottle, with the spray head removed and plumbed into the feed port, filled with coolant/soluble oil. a constant feed helps the broaches last a lot longer .... just put a tap in the feed line so you can turn the flow on/off and regulate it to suit a steady trickle to the cutter. Squeezy bottles don't get the coolant into the centre of the annular cutters, which is where most heat is generated

mine is still in the packaging I’ve never used it! Drill only comes out occasionally and normally only on site so just keep a can of CT90 in the box which does the job and don’t have to worry about the fluid spilling out when packed away

Fab shop I use have one, we've borrowed it from him for site work too, decent tool for the money.

my mags were always on the benches and used daily, sometimes all day long, hence the comment ... my Magtron is over 20 years old and stuck the pace .... the smaller Alfra also stuck it well, but they were major money ..... for the cost of the Evo unit I'd certainly chance my arm for occasional use that most folks'd give it ......

don't think I've ever put a drop of coolant in the supplied gravity fed coolant bottle -- crap unit -- pressure feed is the way to go .... that pump up spray bottle i have was an expensive brass constructed unit ... long before the days of the five quid Aldi/Lidl/cheapo pump up spray bottles, which IMHDO'd be more than adequate and it's so convenient - feeds every time you open the tap
