Macerator?

Got a shepherds hut to install for a client. A macerator is the only way short of a complete tank install to deal with the waste. Trouble is, it's a 60m distance to the manhole and must be 8-10m head (will measure). Only single phase available.

Any ideas? Macerator and extra pump combo? Do have any plumbers here? @pettsy ?

Save the cost and hassle of a macerator and install a pump chamber, then have a rising main to the existing foul system. But I’d guess a pump chamber, complete and ready to install, won’t be cheap, 2K ish was the last one I priced up. But could probably be done on a budget if you fancy doing a diy unit?

Been a long while since I had the headache of a macerator, but from past jobs, the distance might not be an issue, but the head certainly will be I think, if you tried to use a macerator alone that is. And because you won’t be able to go straight up and then fall to the existing foul, there will be a lot of fluid in the pipe should the non-return valve fail in the macerator……

If I remember correctly, most macerators generally need to pump up to a high point and then fall downwards to get any distance. On a job I was quoting recently saniflow couldn’t achieve it whereas a grundfos was much better. I bloody hate working on the things and will always go with gravity where physically possible to do!

For my sins I have spent the last 20+ years plumbing and heating. The above advise is all BANG ON. However if you dont care about warranty or rules or regulations than a decent saniflow will likely cope with pumping it away in some blue 20mm MDPE. Ive done it before and it works, but I am not proud

Gravity is always the most reliable.

Having just re read the OP .. Its for a customer and has 10m head and 60m run... is it not worth just to fit a little treatment plant ?? Saniflow unlikely to cope the distance X plus head Y.

I worked for a fella years ago (when i was plumbing) and he put a bathroom in the cellar under the house he was doing up (was only before ground on the sides) he got a macerator/pump chamber not much bigger than a plastic manhole to go in the ground outside and ran drains into it as normal then i think 50mm pipe up ont sewer. I've seen similar setup specced on a job before but i think we got heights to work so I've never dealt with one personally to know more about them but be worth looking into.

The trouble with macerators is just the hastle they cause when, not if, they go wrong. Couple that with guests who aren’t the least bit worried about what they flush.

I’d go for the tank install if they’ve got the space personally, either way is going to be ££££.

In reality, how much will this thing be used? Could it be an option to fit a cassette toilet in it like a caravan? I know it would need ‘servicing’, but you could have a spare cassette to make it easier possibly? But someone has got to do the servicing, which might be a problem they don’t want. But it could be a simple solution.
