Thread revival!!!
Just had a plumber round to sort out supplying/installing a new boiler (finally!) and he is suggesting we go for the Sapphire modulating boiler. Did you end up doing the course? Any thoughts on them (good and/or bad)?
They aren’t cheap but this guy reckons they are very good - his only criticism is the pumped condensate removal but he installs them on a slightly raised platform to let gravity do its thing.
I’d really value your opinion on this please!
Heya. Yes we have fitted 6 or so Sapphires over the last 12 months. About £1300 dearer than the equivalent Grant Vortex Pro. We have avoided having to use condense pumps on all but one, and the one that has a pump fitted caused me grief on Wednesday. Not a fan of condense pumps, cause lots of issue on the Firebirds.
If you have an Installer and service engineer you trust and get on with who is trained on em and carries the spares.. then go for it, I plan to fit one for myself next year.
You will need to fit the right controls to get the best put of it, and hopefully your installer has a healthy understanding of hydronic and low temperature heating.

That’s exactly what I wanted to hear - if you are fitting one into your own house that speaks volumes to me. This installer definitely knows his onions and has priced to include 2x thermostats and plumb it to run ufh in the new extension, and the traditional radiator setup in the existing house.
It’s just a lot of money (and I am tight!)….
