Depends what make you buy as to where the pivot is. Bateson keep all three axles on the ground.really want a break back, rather than one that tilts onto one axle and loads the hell out of it when tracking up onto it![]()
The Bateson is a fantastic trailer with a really low floor height too. Bateson will make you anything you want, they made my last trailer wider and longer for me so im sure they'd shorten one.I guess it’s probably lack of demand, but why does no-one do a nice 14ft tilt bed. 16ft is just a bit too big for me. Like an IW CT166 but shorter.

You definitely need the Bateson tiltbed with skids like mine then, I think it ticks all your boxes except the beaver bit (totally flat bed makes it more useful for pallets and long stuff).Actually I've now decided I only need a beavertail. The hard bit is finding one with a not-too-big full width ramp, with build in supports. Nugent do one, as do Buffalo. The ramp side pins need to be removable easily.
However, I also want 6'6" wide, not 7', a floor that's flat to the edges (will never use sides), a decent selection of internal tie downs, and 10" tri axle config.

I love my 14ft flat but find it's quite short for cars. Hard to get straps right if that makes sense.

The skids on the Bateson are only about 3 feet long, and you don’t need them to load anything that can climb up a big kerb. No propstands etc - the back of the trailer is flat on the deck for loading. And you can hang long stuff off the back with no rear tailgate. And the floor is low enough that you can pick up/put down implements off the back of the tractor sideways on (using a hydraulic top link) - I bought it mainly for that reason to allow me to move my mulcher (but can’t find any pics of that on it for some reason).I definitely don't want skids. They do exist, here's a nice design from Buffalo. This came up in Facebook, a bargain or stolen at £1500 in Cardiff. However it’s only 12’ long. Ideal for mowers etc. View attachment 75585View attachment 75586

Harder to get hitch weight correct , most things that you can drive onto a trailer tend to be heavy one end .. a lot easier positioning it on a 16 than a 14 ft
