Log splitters

Time to talk log splitters.
I’ve started cutting up logs etc as per my chainsaw thread, I now need to think about splitting the bigger pieces, and before you say, no, I’m not using an axe, age, and a few medical conditions are stopping me.
So, electrical, or hydraulic?
I’ve got the use of a ford 3000 tractor, so pto is not a problem, question is, hire or buy.
If I cut all the trunks in to the right lengths then a weekend will sort it with the correct kit, I think, but I’d be grateful for feedback on how people have found splitting logs.

I run a cheap hydraulic Oxdale splitter on a Ford 3000, and have also got a hycrack cone splitter that it easily runs that has split a huge amount of logs over the last 20-odd years.

yeh that's him -- have had mine IIRC coming up to 4 years --- 22-12-20 it arrived

Company next to me makes them. No idea if any good or not, but he has been doing them for years. I rent yard space and also do a bit of work for him.

Is that straight off the zetors hydraulics or PTO pump? Tried several attachments of my old 7045 and dad's 6211. Both had to go on to PTO pumps as wasn't enough go in the dedicated hyd circuit.

plumbed straight in ... no sweat/effort, splitting on tick-over ..... table is at a lovely working height, with the splitter on the floor and is pushing 3ft square, so dealing with big discs is not an issue, as can be seen in the previous posts.
Our Morso won't handle long lengths ('bout 12" is it's hearth's max) so this was ideal ... if it'll go in the splitter, it'll go in the Morso - it's a block splitter, not a log splitter

Infact it probably won’t work, doubt it will have a load sensing line on the spool.. it’s hardly a 80K baler I’m putting into it

It’ll still go like stink on a modern tractor at tickover.

Thought I’d update this.
Spotted a mitox 5.5 ton electric log splitter on marketplace for £100, and it was local to me.
Thought why not for £100.
Must say I’m impressed so far.
