Laws on driving jcb fastrac with plant trailer

I thought about buying a fastrac and plant trailer, can you drive these on a car licence with a trailer? Do tacho laws apply or does it come under agricultural machinery? I already have a class 1 but could this be a way of doing things for people that just want to transport their machine to a jobsite?

Afaik, and I’m not an expert….

1. Yes (if agri/arbo, if for transport C+E)
2. No, if it’s agricultural/arbocultural work (moving plant for general construction obviously isn’t agricultural)
3. Whilst many seem to do it with tractors/fastrac/unimog setups and get away with it, it’s all good till it’s not good. 18t-ish limit for agri trailer too.

Hi everyone my first post on here, I carry out various groundworks jobs driveways, tarmacing, footings, site clearing etc and looking to scale things up. My clients are mainly domestic but i also do alot of commercial work. I have a 8 ton volvo excavator which I pay good money for someone to move for me but I would like to start moving it myself and offering muckaway services. My question is would you get a hookloader or grab lorry with trailer set up? Are there any more options? I have class 1 so it is an option. Any help would be great, thanks

Just as a side note. If anyone is wondering exactly why I can't be arsed to go into decent explanations regarding O licensing and running a lorry for new members anymore this is exactly why.

Seems you can get away with anything these days, probably only have time / authority/ knowledge to deal with the matters mentioned!

most likely ... when my old man was on traffic they had to know it inside out - and quote it on the spot. Dare say it was the same in @Routy56 's day too ?

Yep but I’ve been out of for over 14 years now the jobs gone to pot with no one with proper knowledge and fcuk all real Traffic Police out there any more

Hey Shaun, agree with yer sentiments in principle buddy
As many will know in a former life I was a Traffic Sergeant for about 9 years - retired from that after 30 years in 2009 and bought a digger
In my time I was a "Road Death Scene Manager" - what that meant is that when on duty I went to most FATAL and SERIOUS INJURY collisions in Essex.
When my team wasn't dealing with DEATH and DESTRUCTION we tried to prevent it.

The most satisfying was giving the answers to the bereaved families as to WHY their loved ones were killed.
AND locking up the complete fcukwits on the roads
BUT back on topic yes in those days we had bucket fulls of discretion to deal fairly with this that passed the 'attitude test'
Those that didn't were dealt with fairly and invariably went to Court

I am doing a Motorway Speed Awareness Course on Monday. Grateful that I have the option and don’t get the points. My thought process simply has me smiling as I was only doing 50mph. The motorway at 6am was under a 50mph limit and then I passed under a variable speed limit sign that was 40mph and I could see the next sign at 50mph. But hey Ho.
My friend was doing 89mph and got fines and three points. Surely he needs educating more than me!!
