Interesting comparison chart Fred, I agree, specs are only part of the story, and some machines just "feel" nicer to drive and own, depending on what we like.
I've always thought JCB look to push the maximum out of their machines in a given weight class, you can say many things about them, but rarely does the word "underpowered" come up. Maybe this is why they seemingly suffer more issues than their Japanese counterparts as they are running harder?
On that list, you know the Takeuchi, Kobelco and Yanmar will be around seemingly for ever, the Kubota too, especially the older KX57. All built basic with less thrills and performance not maxed out for reliability. I believe Leibherr do something similar.
The new Kubota has more electronics than ever before, as does the JCB. Lovely as it is to have Netflix in the cab, you do wonder what exactly was wrong with a cable joining the throttle cable to the injection pump! But its the way things are going.
I don't think you can discount the JCB from this list if you are looking to run it for 5 or so years (maybe less?) Because for performance it certainly punches its weight and JCB warranty and backup is very good.

having watched all of @Gunners videos the last few days ... I am impressed with his 8026 ... for its size it's a hell of a tool and unless he's omitted any visits from a yellow van, seems pretty reliable ... would be nice to see comparable stuff coming from James @Shovelhands with his bigger bro. he certainly seems to love it and we don't hear much about any 'van visits' either

You are spot on- I was doing a yard tidy up with a TB290 this week- I picked up this granite post with my TB125 last year and this year picked it up with tb290- quite shocked how easily it tipped the TB290 side on before it got anywhere near full reach. Considering the TB290 has another 6 tons on the tb125!

technically no, but it was before the pic and now is working again and was my fault for running it low on fuel, doesn't like to be below 25% last time I tell you secrets on instagram ollie haha

No manufacturer makes the best machine in every weight class. It just wouldn't be possible with so many different models to keep them all that little bit different without compromise. It's one of the things which i don't get with trying to cover every quarter ton, jcb tried this between about 2000 to 2010 and its probably still doing them harm now (takeuchi were starting to do the same thing a few years ago, I have told my dealer my opinion).
It's what makes it so difficult to properly compare machines as one might be a proper 6 tonner another an overgrown 5 tonner and another might be more like a 7 on a diet. It's one of the big reasons you can't easily replace some of the older machines. Its possible that when hitachi made the ex30 and 60 they only made those and one or two other models in the mini line so they could get every ounce of performance out of each model without taking sales from the next model up.
I'm not gonna argue with gunners saying his 8026 punches above it's weight, I've never used one so can't comment but it's possible that jcb have built a machine to its full potential there but the next model up could be disappointment as a consequence.
As for running harder as a reason for possibly more issues, sorry don't agree there. End of the day engine drives an oil pump through some hoses to push rams in and out. Yes i know there's an awful lot more to it to make it nice to operate etc but at the end of the day if stuff keeps breaking all the time its not because its too powerful for itself but because it isn't built well enough to cope with its own power.

Having had an Ex60 it was one hell of a machine along with the Ex100 and Ex120. The Kobelco is 75sr-3 is good. But it hasn’t moved the goal post much in 20 years

Couldn’t agree more . The first ex hitachis were a generation ahead of everything else in each class. The previous UH series were leading the way but the ex blew everything out of the water . Even today they’d stand along side a lot of current machines for pace and be more reliable than most. It was getting into bed with Fiat that upset the dominance they had .

called for a price on the Hitachi, they have closed their order book for 2021. Next taking order Jan 2022, the 6 tonner was 44 in basic spec.
