Kubota u17-3a rust on canopy

Afternoon all,

I have just spotted that the paint is peeling on the canopy of my U17. I've not had it two years yet, so I have emailed the dealer to see if covered on warranty.

But I am quite surprised as I would have expected a pretty thorough process in the powder coating at the factory. Is this a common thing?

That's bad. I wouldn't be happy with that either. Paint or powder coating just doesn't seem to last on an edged surface like that. Assuming bad prep- no primer? Seems like it's just straight onto bare metal. Always thought Kubota were one of the better ones for doing a decent paint job..

Sadly not since Covid. Seen a few Kubota's with poor paint now at sub 3 years old. Not quite as bad as Bobcat yet, more similar to JCB where it lasts about as long as the warranty period....
They used to undercoat stuff - clearly that was too expensive.

Never had a newer Bobat but plenty of JCB and Kub and the black is crap, not to be left out Wacker is poor on the light grey, as we've said before its the sharp edges, will have a look at my u17 which is 2018, but I think its the same.
Cant imagine the warranty will cover it, they would see every machine twice if they did.

It’s not a massive issue for me to paint it BUT if the big name manufacturers skimp on quality, sooner or later we will start thinking seriously about the Chinese copies.

Most of us don't have the luxury of keeping a machine under cover all the time. Most cars keep their paint pretty decent for at least 10 years so no excuse that machines like this should be any different. Say what you like about a takeuchi tb216 but when I sold it to @Lancs Lad at 7 years old the paint was pretty much as good as the day it was born except where it had been physically scratched etc.

I’m assuming you meant would not! I’m interested see how many new Chinese cars are on the road. I wonder how much they will be worth in a year or two.

Nope only bit I ever took a spray can to was a bit 2p sized on the offside counterweight where I accidentally caught a bucket on the trailer when turning round once- other than that 100% factory. It was stored in the shed at times in between jobs though but plenty of time outdoors left on site for weeks/months etc
