I think I have a very similar list at 4500hrs apart from the track motor, rams and sprocket. Mine is older and breaker pipe was operator error or adventure in the trees!! To be fair I have been over the moon with the 71-3 and will happily run it for years to come. Always a game running older plant with parts against depreciation. On this one, parts wins!!

Track motors were dry and dipper ram had been caught and cracked the cylinder around a port.... so a bit negligence and operator error .. the rest well like you say.

Hassle factor. It’s all very well saying you can fix it yourself, but if you can fix it properly yourself then that’s worth £50 plus per hour and needs to be factored in. So new kit wins for me with diggers. Although I have a lot of second hand other things.

But to do that with one you've bought at 10 year old is another matter. Nowt worse than chasing electrical gremlins from one butchered connector to another.

Problems do happen but rarely.

We are in to a 3cx transmission at the moment ... Jcbs job and I’m not going to get much change from 7k I don’t think... had to lend the customer a machine... it just happens . Luck of the draw

I thought these Kubota's were bombproof! My 8026 has ticked over 3k this week. So far, new top roller, one hose and set of tracks is its parts cost to date (oh and paint of course )
I await imminent failure of all major parts shortly then!
To be fair it could do with a new operator..... Current one's lost his eye for levels

That's a big thing mind, fixing things properly. I've no problem running a digger i bought new at 10 year old or more with confidence it won't let me down. Agreed or buy a cosmetically mint 10 year old digger for a good price then replace everything on it and you know its right.
The plan is to get a 5-6t with tilty next year and that will retire the KX71somewhat but will prob keep it anyway

I wondered if you would chime in Ollie and I guessed the 8026 had done a bit better and it doesnt suprise me....... anyhow that comment wasnt for me was it because you know im not in the JCB bashing club !
That Idig and tiltrotator is ruining your skills ..... put you on a standard hitch and no idig and you would drive like a weekend warrior

to be fair we have a CAT 302 in with a tilt rotator, 2000 odd hours and original tracks. Amazingly over 60% plus... not idea how he moved his digger but a good operator is worth his weight in gold on a machine.

My old TB125 did 5000 hrs with just servicing, hoses and tracks. Honestly didn’t touch anything else in the 2500 hrs I had it, and it was an ex hire wreck.
My newer tb125 is much the same but track motors seals were leaking a bit last week so who knows

however when I eventually do get round to replacing it I’m just going to run whatever I buy for 5 years/3000hrs and then refresh as I hate breakdowns!

And there's me thinking the big thing with a tilty is not having to constantly reposition digger.
My 175 track which i had to change at 10 years and 5600hrs it was age that got it

It's annoying, I was looking forward to getting a rake and thumb but the dumpers broken again and needs a new valve chest.

Hi had an 8 ton Kubota on hire recently- it had only done 1200hrs and the tracks were knackered!

I reckon cost of ownership works out similar on older gear vs brand new taking into account the additional repair costs of older, but then it’s the downtime that’s the killer.

Old you loose all the money you spend on parts and new you loose on depreciation.
I think depreciation is at about 0 at the moment.

Thanks for the offer but I have a 10 year old nearly new kx71-3 now so why buy one thats about to want a fortune throwing at it

Like I say it will be a 5-6t with tilty next year .... what colour who knows.... should be an interesting thread if nothing else

Well the new idler wheel went on no problem. The old one was shagged and been codged up by previous owner. Instead of replacing the whole thing they had just replaced the bearing.

I tried to replace the bearings in my KX roller - put the new one it and it fell out the other side the old rollers make great door stops

There was runs of weld on the shaft. So it must have been ran whilst being fooked for some time. the other side is probably the same

Plenty of vintage car companies sell a whole selection of door window seals in various shapes and stick on or with metal u grips built in should be plenty on ebay
