Komatsu PC240

[Quarryop]

Any of you guys ever drove one of these? Had the mighty experience of one today, ive never drove a worse balanced digger with the most bouncy hydraulics ive ever experienced. I honestly think something is up with the hydraulics or are they that sensitive and I'm just a big savage.

Had a PC130-8 out on a months hire one time, it was badly balanced. Wouldn't say the hydraulics were jumpy but the awful balance certainly made them feel jumpy

I'm guessing its a dash 8 as I think the badge is painted over like the rest of it.

It is a really badly balanced machine, There is at least an inch of side play in the main boom pin, and slewing ring has play in it. It has the long dipper arm to make matters worse for balance. I drove an old really worn and rough Cat 330B with 22k hours on the clock in another sand pit for a year and it out shined this ball of scrap in every way. It has 13k hours on the clock and foreman told me it had 15k spent on it recently. Painting a digger must be very expensive these days, Ohh and before I forget it also got a new hitch and bucket into the bargain. Never been as dismayed with a machine. Drove a CASE 20T recently with only 5k hours and it was an impressive machine. Best digger to me yet was a fresh 350 Hitachi, followed close by an aged 470

Think thats the issue I'm feeling Thomas, thank for info. After a 48hr week in the cab I still cant get the feel for this ball of dung.

I do not rate Komatsu machines one bit!
Was using a HB365 last week and it was just horrible to use!
And there dozers are just rank!!

It's weird, I hire a lot from HE and have been really pleased with the Komatsu's we get. Admitedly they are the smaller machines. The PC 138 low tail is a great machine. Yes, you can have it up on one track with a heavy attachment and lack of thought, but I put that down to operator error. Again the PC210 and the 15m long reach version of the 210 seem very nice to operate to me. Maybe I don't expect enough from machines or I'm not a very refined operator.

Used to hire an 8t Komatsu, it was horrible.

Not 240,but was on a new 210 last summer,irritating little jump pulling the dipper in grading,was on volvo 235 after that n was smooth as silk ,currently on 210 long reach,no such problem easy to operate even with idiots round bucket/ auger at full reach

I'm not a fan of Komatsu's the little pc20 is good for what it is but I don't rate the 5t 8t or 13t from them

Yep thats the most annoying thing I found Lynchy, when pulling the dipper arm in and boom up it takes a notion of starting to jump. If its not on all Komatsu,s then it must be a issue caused by faulty check valves or similar. Cant think how a long reach boom would improve that issue?
