KH 41 wont start

Not sure, you need to check the levers and blade control, if its trying to lift when starting the definitely something not right.

I think your machine is linkage controlled rather than servo. So id have a look at the linkage etc to start with
Yes it will be linkage I would expect she is 1996 model KH41, I will just have to wait till I get home and lift the floor and see what linkage is stuck or out of line, but thanks for all the pointers, makes me feel a bit more optimistic.

Sorry I may have given you the wrong impression, the boom will lift if you engage the lever whilst the starter is turning the engine over

That’s normal. You’re turning the pump over with the engine.

Although he never started it he said that it offered to start when he put the track levers forward ? So still the same problem ?

Thanks for info, what could have done that as was working fine until I parked her up for the night?

Yes I definitely did that and heard the revs change when i got out the cab, so I flipped the pedal the opposite way to get revs back to normal, but never noticed the change back, the machine was still running fine so I carried on working then I tracked her back to the barn and laid bucket to rest and shut her down…
The rest is history…

Yes its very frustrating being out here and cant get the floor up for inspection, but thanks for getting back with all the replies, just gives me confidence to try and find whats wrong!
My brother has offered to have a look but I said I would rather wait till I got home.
So thanks again.
Hamish.

Has it got high speed tracking (and if so so is the button stuck)?

Here is a crazy idea. Why not buy a service manual? I know it's cheating, but even people with great mechanical aptitude begin life with no actual knowledge. And some manuals are fantastic. I firmly believe every technical writer should have to read the Detroit Diesel 71 series manual to see how it should be done. Course that was written during WW2.

-41 and KUBOTA KH41

Excavator

Factory Parts Manual, I have downloaded to phone, dont have computer access till I get home, the writing is very small so will get on laptop for better view…

What man as done, man can do, what never has, maybe
explain how the dead man isolates mechanical controls then please Aiden??????
On my Komogsu 😂 there is a little spring loaded hydraulic ram that locks the travel levers and needs pressure to pull the ram back to release the levers👍

It’s what I do!
KH 41 all mechanical controls as I remember, so could be a stuck cable or lever! Before starting or trying to, move all levers fully in all direction

Thanks to all who responded, I got the old thing going, after removal of the cab floor it transpired that indeed the aux hydraulic pedal was not disengaging, and this was causing a back pressure when trying to turn over engine, as soon as was disengaged, the engine turned freely and then when fully primed burst into life…
Thanks for the feedback, makes giving advice worth it.

KH41 suddenly decided it wont start…
Question Kubota mini digger wont start so have changed both filters and even the electric lift pump and getting fuel toinjectors but still wont start then I accidentally hit the forward hydraulic lever and it offered to start I thought no way so tried again, this time I engaged both levers forward and she started nearly went through the shed! So I footered about and can start in forward or reverse but soon as you take OUT of gear it stops,???

All I can think is I might have hit the Aux hydraulic pedal and its stuck and causing back pressure in the system and when going forward it releases pressure somewhere or have no idea realy, goes against every thing…
Ok guys sorry for no updates but its been a struggle, the initial no starting was found out to be the mechanical linkage under the floor was not disengaging and was trying to start under load, but now the damn thing will turn over freely but not fire up? So the heater plugs looks a big job so I tried this a magnetic sump heater left on over night and you can feel the difference with warm oil… the engine turns freely… I also had a heat pad on the diesel filter to warm the fuel???? So when I go to start everything sounds good and feels good… you just think its about to go ? Then the slightest squirt of easy start in the small hole in the pipe and it fires up instantly ???

Heater plugs shouldn't be that much of a job, probably have to take off the odd injector pipe ...
.... once done a "tired" old kubota will start like a young-un 😉
