Fwiw mine smoked like feck, I had a 13hp honda on the shelf which fitted with next to no modification, it was a cheap solution at the time but to be fair the Honda is quieter, cleaner and altogether easier to live with

Sorry for the delay, I did not get into the workshop yesterday.
The engine shaft is 1 inch diameter and the centre of the shaft is 5 1/2 inches from the base.
What's wrong with the engine you have?
The one I have does not appear to have any compression when I turn it over by hand. It was already stripped off the machine when I bought it at auction and I have converted the dumper to 110v electric power as its being used to carry a drill rig in confined spaces.
I'm hoping that a set of piston rings and a gasket set will fix it. These are about £50 on Ebay. I just haven't had a spare few hours to get into it yet.
