JCB HM100 Hydraulic Breaker (seal failure?)

I recently purchased a JCB HM100 hydraulic breaker (2013 model). I paired this breaker to my Takeuchi TB016 digger, connected the hoses and pushed the pedal with very little response. So I removed the hoses from the breaker and swapped them around, re-started the machine, pushed the pedal and Bingo! away it went. After a couple of minutes of use I noticed hydraulic oil pouring down the pin which made me realise that the seals had failed. I removed the breaker from the machine, stripped it down and discovered the two end seals had broken up. So I purchased two new seals from JCB and replaced them. I re-fitted the breaker to my Takeuchi machine, started it up, hit the pedal and the breaker started working. After a couple of minutes of working the same problem re-occurred...seal failure. So my question is....have I caused this problem by reversing the hoses or is there something else wrong with the breaker itself??
Any advice gratefully received.

Could be a mark/corrosion on end of piston damaged the seals. Its why proper storage of breakers is important and preferably kept inside.

doesn't flow and pressure have to be matched/set to a breaker ..... not just plug and play items ..... too much back pressure also 'praps, if not a direct to tank return ...... can't have helped matters with the crossed lines to start though

They have a fair operating range flow wise especially on smaller machines

Is the tekuchi currently setup for single or double acting as this can increase back pressure too

I don't think it's a back pressure issue tbh that would need a bit more use to be a problem. There's various setups on little takis for the return some have a valve some do not but they do dump which ever line is return pressure wise very well as a rule (albeit if through spool they will be a slight restriction). Tbh for the flow a mini generates by the time its gone through the internals of a breaker there won't be a huge amount of oil returning to generate a lot of back pressure.
I'd still go with damaged piston, which if the case i hope op hasn't much money invested in breaker as might not be worth fixing.

Hello Smiffy, this sounds more positive, I'm not sure what you mean by "single or double acting*? But when I stripped the JCB breaker down, the second seal looked like part of it had been sucked into a small hole which is what led me think that the pressure was too high or moving in the wrong direction? Just check the lower section of piston for high spots or pitting. High spots can be cleaned with 80 grit Emery finished with a Brillo polishing pad. Pitting is a new piston.
