JCB Factory Tour

I went on a JCB factory tour today (organised by a friend of a friend, someone dropped out, I filled their place).
What a great day out, it’s a really impressive operation and well worth a tour if you have the time/get a chance!
We were shown around 2 separate factory sites encompassing the telehandler, backhoe loader, site dumper, Fastrac and loader production lines, as well as the JCB history museum bit (which was very interesting in its own right), and had a decent lunch too.
Aside from the fact that JCB are very very good at the whole presentation and marketing side of things (it was a very well polished tour!) the scale of what is going on and the organisation behind it is mind blowing. Forgetting everything else they build over 100 telehandlers and 40 backhoes a DAY - fabricating them pretty much entirely on site (certain components such as gearboxes, axles and cabs are manufactured in other JCB factories and brought to the production line to be assembled, but the chassis, booms, rams etc come into the factory as flat plate and tube).
If you have any interest in engineering/mechanical stuff then I can’t recommend it enough as a day out. JCB is a seriously impressive company and a real showcase for what Britain can turn out!

Ahh the yellow injection. I remember it well. Got the opportunity to be invited along with a few others from on here last year. Even got to play in the quarry. Great day out, and yeh it does leave you feeling like we might just be alright come a no deal brexit.

Flew on Sir Anthonys Copter a good few times and it really is a fantastic experience touring the factory. I mean as a sales person i used to come away feeling pumped, and almost like how can anything go wrong.

It is fantastic to see though, the museum is great and the food from Daylesford farms (iirc) is Sir Anthonys wife's and is very good

When guy Martin did the tank rebuild JCB did alot if the fabrication work, was a good watch

I went to a be your own boss day back in 2012? When they where trying to push the 3cx to owner operators the hospitality was amazing!

The be your own boss event was a great event ran by JCB, was nice to be apart of it , was nearly over a year in planning!

Didn’t know I was getting the jet untill a day or two before when I got an email telling me about it. It was a brilliant experience.

They have a dedicated team, it’s pretty crazy.
Although we used to book customer visits via the helicopter and the day before their team would call to cancel as one of them wanted to go shopping in
London or somthing. I don’t blame them. It certainly is a fast way of moving about

Yeah. Our trip was organised through our local JCB dealer. The sales man said he knew we were getting the jet but didn’t want to tell us untill the morning we were flying out. He said that he had heard before of people that were goin on the jet but got cancelled at last minute and then they Were upset by this. When we went it was mid November and this was around the time joe bamford was finalising his purchase of wright bus. I thought maybe the jet had brought him over and then we got the use of it untill he was goin home again. But no we were told it was put on just for us.
